Oh to be in college again....

I just opened up our university daily paper and had the ads fall into my lap. As I reached to pick up the garbage... I noticed a familiar 3 circle logo... :)

The Disney College Program is here at South Carolina today doing interviews. Oh...to be in college again and to have the opportunities some of these kids have today.

The interview is at 5:30 today... maybe admissions isn't too busy....

The presenters will talk a bit about the time when they were in the program. Then they will show a powerpoint presentation about the program. They'll throw some questions in there about WDW and give out little prizes to the person answering the qustion correctly. And they will answer any questions asked. Afterwards, they will have a sign up for interviews. Many times, interviews are held immediately following the presentation.

Oh to be young again. Do you think a recent college graduate (just short of twenty years) mother of three would be a good canidate - I'm good with disney trivia lol.

I can report for work in say 10 years when my youngest goes off to college.

No age limit on those applying for the WDW College Program! Just be a registered college student (part-time ok) when you apply. There's still time for everyone! :)

Hmmm....ya got me thinking again....:hmmm I seriously considered interviewing for the College Program last year, but decided against it. The reason I chose not to is because I had some acquaintances who did it, and they said that the provided housing down there was worse than at college--nonstop parties, booze, etc...

So that's when I decided to do this thing on my own and save all my money so I could move. Still trying to figure out if I made the right choice?

Hey, its what you do with your time not what they do with their time. I participated in the College Program and loved it. If you haven't learned to control your personal need to cave into peer pressure by the time you get into college...well...

I'll let your parents take over now.;)

My daughter was in the WDWCP in Spring, 2003. Like PhantomBantam indicated, the program is what you make of it. My daughter loved the entire experience and wants to go back again! It is a great way to get your foot in the door if you want to pursue a career with Disney.

College Program

I did the program back in 1994 and I have mixed feelings. It was great to be working at Disney BUT there were certain drawbacks.
I toofelt some hostility from the regular castmembers. From what I learned many long time CM's lost jobs due to the hiring of college program kids.
You ARE at the mercy of Disney as far as overtime. If they want you to work, you have no choice if you want to keep your job. And depending on what job you have it might not be so bad. I was in fast food at the Liberty Inn in Epcot.
:)
The living conditions aren't that, although there is some culture clashing within the different nationalities. I had 6 people in my apt. from France, Norway, Japan, Canada and Germany along with myself. By the way, Norwegians cook fish for breakfast!
Plus you get paid SQUAT!
I would never trade in my experiences but I think you should be forwarned that its not all sunshine and roses.
You do have a blast with the other kids, you meet great people, learn valuable lessons, go the parks for free, eat great food if you have money to, and it looks great on a resume!

I did the college program bith buzzfanmom. The one thing anyone considering the cp must remember is that every experience is what you make of it. i know a few years ago i was at epcot and ran into a cp student who was thinking about giving up. we told him to stick it out. i thought about it leaving BUT aftre it's all said and done i would do it again. it is a tough adjustment. being away from your home and being at the mercy of disney. you do work a lot of overtime, and the working conditions may not be the best ( i did the turkey legs in frontier land) but it is the experience of a life time. we always went to the parks on our days off and after seeing the characters out of costume the magic was still there. there are a lot of cultural differnce if you opt to live with foriegn students but i learned alot. it looks great on a resume. disney is very picky. they should be. good employers know that. let this be the best time of your life. despite overtime, long hours, mean people, homesickness and whatever else, there is so much to see and do. one thing that i would do differntly is i would choose to pick up trash. the people i knew who did that had so much more interaction with guests and freedom to move around. when you are in costume you are restricted to that area unless you are on parade duty. park sweepers can roam around freely and were always the happiest with their jobs. something to consider.

Wow, how often do you hear that?? I am glad you liked your CP and can now offer advice to others. You are so lucky to have done that. If I had to do it over again I would head to WDW and live out a dream.

By the way, welcome to DisneyCentral. I hope you stick around, you former CPers have a lot to offer us.
