FAQ Shades of Green
Shades of Green is an Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) on Walt Disney World property. Originally operated by Disney, this resort was a deluxe resort known as The Disney Inn. A Magic Kingdom resort, Shades of Green is located across the street (Floridian Way) from Disney’s Polynesian Resort.
Shades of Green is a retreat for active and retired military personnel and their families, members of the National Guard, and Department of Defense employees. Check here to see who is eligible to stay at Shades of Green: Shades of Green® Resort on WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort offical website is the only Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) located in the continental U.S. Shades of Green® on WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort is a military resort serving the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Atmosphere: Shades of Green is located between two golf courses, the Magnolia and Palm. From its spacious rooms to its open lobby, Shades of Green is tastefully decorated. I have often heard Shades of Green décor compared to Wilderness Lodge. Rooms: Shades of Green has 586 rooms, all of which are non-smoking. The typical room size is a spacious 480 square feet. Most rooms sleep 5 and consist of two queen beds and a fold out sofa that could easily accommodate an adult. King beds are not available. A limited number of suites are available; these suites sleep either 6 or 8 persons, depending on room size. Two room views are available; pool and standard view. The standard view often looks out over one of the nearby golf courses. Room amenities include an in-room coffee maker, TV with internet connection, a small in-safe, voice mail, cribs (for a $5 fee), refrigerator, hair dryer, iron, and ironing board. Rooms can be booked up to one year in advance and a minimum of three night stay is required. You can book rooms by calling 888-593-2242 or online through the SoG website. To avoid a one night fee, cancellation must be received 30 days prior to arrival. This fee can be waived if you are active duty and have a change of orders. The maximum number of rooms that can be reserved is three. Room rates depend on rank and status. Evergreens is a sports bar and grill open for lunch and dinner. The atmosphere here is more grill than bar, it is very family friendly; there is even a game room for the “kids.” The food is typical sports bar fare with large servings yet very reasonably priced. Garden Gallery Open for breakfast and dinner, the Garden Gallery offers a reasonably priced menu along with a full buffet. Mangino’s Open only for dinner, Mangino’s offers authentic Italian cuisine in a fine dining atmosphere. Express Café offers pastries, snacks, and a variety of beverages, including coffee. Pool: Shades of Green offers two heated pools, a children’s pool, and a hot tub. Recreation: Guests at Shades of Green can reserve a tee time at any of the WDW golf courses. Check with guest services for any special offers available to Shades of Green guests. There is a Fitness Center on the first floor near Manginos Restaurant. A children’s playground is located near Evergreens sports bar/pool area. Transportation: Shades of Green offers transportation to WDW parks via two buses. At check in you will be given a transportation guide listing the bus schedule. Bus A departs every 15 minutes starting at 8 am and running two hours past park closing. Magic Kingdom, Epcot (via monorail from the Ticket and Transportation Center), and Downtown Disney (drop off at a Downtown Disney resort) can be reached using bus A. Bus B departs every 30 minutes starting at 8 am and running 2 hours past park closing. Disney's Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach and Disney's MGM Studios can be reached using bus B. If you are not afraid of a little walk you can take the monorail or a Disney bus to Disney’s Polynesian Resort and walk to Shades of Green. Exit the Polynesian resort near the check in desk and turn right and follow the sidewalk past the service drive. You will cross a main road (Floridian Way) and you will be at the entrance drive to Shades of Green. During the day you may be lucky enough to get a ride on a Shades of Green golf cart at least part of the way to the Polynesian. Laundry: Laundry facilities are offered on the third floor of the new addition. Machines are available with detergent and other laundry supplies. Washing machines are $1.00 per load and dryers are $.75 per cycle. Laundry service is also available, information is in each room. Package delivery: Like at WDW resorts, package delivery is available for Shades of Green guests. However, your Shades of Green resort ID is only good for charging on SoG property. Tickets: Shades of Green Attraction Tickets Sales Office offers discounted tickets to Disney and other Central Florida destinations. Shades of Green guests are eligible for Extra Magic Hours. Parking: Shades of Green guests do not have to pay for parking at Disney's parks. Show your SoG ID and your should be waved through the same as Disney resort guests.
