FAQ - Old Key West

Old Key West is a Disney Vacation Club Property. It is also available to non-members on a nightly rental basis.

Atmosphere: Evoking the spirit of the Florida Keys, Old Key West is the flagship property of the DVC. For those looking for a respite from the excitement of Walt Disney World attractions, OKW offers its guests a “laid-back community” atmosphere. A picture-perfect south Florida village, it is a welcoming oasis- but an oasis providing guests with all the first-class amenities of any Disney resort.

“Conch Flats” is the name of the village at the OKW resort. It houses the Hospitality House for check-in. Clustered in “downtown” Conch Flats you will find a “general store”, Community Hall, sit-down restaurant, main pool, and boat launch.

Accommodations: Three- story, pastel villas, scattered throughout lush, tropical landscaping offer guests three types of accommodations.

Studios: One spacious room,(376 sq. ft) decorated in soft pastel florals, the studios have two queen-size beds, an armoire housing the television, a table and two chairs, a microwave, sink, small fridge, coffeemaker toaster, iron and ironing board. The bathrooms are small, but adequate. There is a small patio or balcony. They are comfortable accommodation for a small family.

One Bedroom: The open, airy one-bedroom villas have every comfort of home.(942 sq. ft.) The living room/dining room is decorated in the signature pastels of the resort, with a queen-size pull-out couch, love seat, easy chair, a large table and four chairs. There is also a built-in buffet in the dining area. The “island” separating living room and kitchen holds the TV and DVD player. The full-size kitchen is furnished with the best of appliances and utensils - you could easily cook an entire Christmas feast. The master bedroom has a king-size enameled iron bed, comfy chair, armoire with second tv and a french door to the spacious patio. A second french door, in the dining room, also opens on to the patio. The huge, luxurious bathroom is divided into two sections. Louvered doors separate the bedroom from the “whirlpool tub” section of the bathroom. This room also houses a pedestal sink. In the second room of the bathroom, you will find a walk-in shower, second sink and toilet. The laundry room is equipped with a full-size washer and dryer. The suites comfortably sleep 4.

Two Bedroom:(1,333 sq. ft) In most, though, not all suites, a studio “lock off” suite becomes the second bedroom. Some suites are simply designed with a second bedroom housing 2 queen beds, with attached bathroom. They sleep 8.

Three Bedroom Grand Villa: Similar to the two bedroom suites, the Grand Villas offer a third bedroom with 2 double beds. 12 people can be comfortably accommodated. There are 3 bathrooms.

All suites include a crib.

Restaurants: Because OKW is a condominium community, many families opt to cook “at home”. However, when you’re in the mood to dine out, Olivia’s Café is one of the “best-kept” secrets of WDW. It offers traditional “comfort food” style fare, as well as some Key West favourites. Served in a homey atmosphere, where the walls are decorated with photos of the DVC family members, the restaurant is located at the “Conch Flats” village square. This is where you’ll find that piece of “Key Lime Pie”.

Good’s Food to Go, situated on the boardwalk of Conch Flats offers quick bites. You can find burgers, sandwiches and salads here, as well as conch fritters. Situated by one of the quiet pools, “Turtle Shack” serves pizza, salads, sandwiches and snacks. For your favourite drink, try “The Gurgling Suitcase” on the boardwalk.

Pools: Three quiet pools are situated throughout the village, with the main pool near Hospitality House in Conch Flats village. In January, the new million dollar plus water slide, in the shape of a large sandcastle, was unveiled. The main pool area is where you will also find the resort’s hot tub, sauna (located in the Lighthouse), and children’s kiddie pool and playground.

Recreation: OKW offers a full range of recreation. There is a small Health Club, three tennis courts, (2 lighted) , a volleyball court and a basketball court. You can also rent a variety of boats and bikes. DVD’s are available for rent at the Community Club. This is where you will find table tennis, a large screen tv and numerous board games. The Electric Eel Video Arcade is in Hospitality House and The Flying Fish Arcade is by the Turtle Shack snack bar. There are also 1.5 miles of jogging, walking and biking paths.

Transportation: There is bus transportation to all theme parks, as well as Downtown Disney. Because OKW does not share a bus with any other resorts, transportation is efficient. Numerous bus stops are situated throughout the village. Water launches also provide service to the Marketplace.

Shopping: The Conch Flats General Store is the place for groceries, books, souvenirs, and character merchandise. OKW also offers a “grocery” option. When you book your suite, you have the option of having your groceries purchased and waiting for you when you arrive at your “home”. Ask about this service when you are making your reservation.

Location: OKW is a Downtown Disney Resort.

Additional Information: OKW was Disney’s first venture into timeshares. Obviously no expense was spared in the creation of this charming little village. While all the DVC properties have their own distinct charm, the size of the 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas at OKW make this an ideal resort for families. Conversely, many feel that OKW does not have the “excitement” and “themeing” which other DVC properties have. However, if you are looking for a place to stretch out, relax and enjoy some quiet quality time; where watching the luckiest ducks in the “World” waddling towards you for their morning snacks, and where the idea of your kids biking to the village to meet new-found friends at the pool, appeals to you, then you could not find a more ideal resort than Old Key West.

WELCOME HOME!
