FAQ Disney's Contemporary Resort

Welcome to Disney Central's Contemporary Resort frequently asked questions thread!! Hope it helps you out.

Please PM me if you have any specific questions.
Thanks!!

Disney's Contemporary Resort
4600 North World Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-1000
(407) 824-1000 and the
fax number is (407) 824-3539.

Both standard rooms and suites are offered at Disney's Contemporary Resort. At 422 square feet, the guest rooms here are amongst the largest on Disney property. Guest rooms feature 2 queen size beds (or one king size bed) and a daybed, table with 2 chairs, armoire, television, nightstand, telephone, key-operated in-room safe, wall mirror, ceiling fan, large bathroom with hair dryer, luggage rack, iron and ironing board and a balcony/patio. The patios on the first floor rooms in the Garden wings are not private, they are shared with your neighbors. Guests who need to connect to home or work via the Internet while vacationing, will find a computer data port near the nightstand and you do not have to disconnect the telephone to use it.
TIP: For rooms close to the food area, monorail and bus stop, choose the North Garden wing. The South wing rooms are closer to the pool, and convention center. The Tower rooms offer incredible views of Bay Lake, the Seven Seas Lagoon or the Magic KingdomPark. They are also closer to the monorail station, restaurants and shops. Garden wing rooms can be quite a distance from the monorail. However because of the proximity to the Grand Canyon Concourse, some Tower rooms may be noisy.

DINING

Chef Mickey's
One of the most popular spots for character meals is Chef Mickey's. Visit with Chef Mickey himself, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Chip and Dale here.

Concourse Steakhouse
The Concourse Steakhouse is located in the 90-foot high atrium and this offers a great view of the monorail as it goes through the resort. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

California Grill
One of the best views of the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom Park is from the California Grill on the 15th floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort. As of June 14,2004 the terrace area surrounding the restaurant will be available only to restaurant guests for the Magic Kingdom fireworks. The award-winning restaurant is open from 5:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. and the lounge, where cocktails, California wines, bottled beer, appetizers and desserts are served, is open from 5:30pm - 1am.

Food and Fun Center
The counter service restaurant, the Food and Fun Center, is located on the first floor, off the lobby, and is open 24 hours per day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here.

Outer Rim Lounge
At the Outer Rim Lounge, you can enjoy cocktails and appetizers as you feast your eyes on a spectacular view of Bay Lake.

Sand Bar
Have a drink and snack by the pool. There is a walk up window where you can order food. Inside is a bar that serves a limited number of frozen drinks and beer.

The Pool

There are actually two pools at the Contemporary. The large pool is a freeform pool complete with a 17-foot high curving slide. There is also a round, quiet pool which is shallow around the edges and deeper in the center. Two whirlpools have also been added, one of which is located on a peninsula which juts out into the freeform pool area. In addition there is a toddler wading pool located near the North Garden Wing.

Recreation

The Contemporary offers a wide variety of recreational activities. Guests can rent a number of different water craft from the Contemporary's marina, there are six tennis courts, there is a health club and a very large video arcade.

Pros

On the monorail line.

Within walking distance of Magic Kingdom.

Great choice of dining options.

Watch Magic Kingdom fireworks from some rooms.

Good recreation options, swimming, water sports and tennis.

Onsite childcare.

Character meal onsite.

Health and fitness center.

Choice of restaurants, recreation and entertainment at the other Resorts on the monorail.

Cons

One of oldest resorts, so can feel a bit dated.

Quite expensive.

The theming isn't as good as most Disney Resorts.

Transportation

Magic Kingdom Park: Guests wishing to visit the Magic Kingdom Park have a couple of options open to them. First is the monorail which is fun to travel on, but not necessarily the fastest way to get to the Magic Kingdom Park since it travels clockwise and stops at the Ticket & Transportation Center, Disney's Polynesian Resort and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort before arriving at the Magic Kingdom Park.If you are feeling energetic and don’t mind the exercise, you can walk, it is only 5-10 minutes.

Epcot: Take the monorail to the Ticket & Transportation Center and transfer to the Epcot monorail.

Disney-MGM Studios: Take the Disney-MGM Studios bus.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park: Take the bus marked Animal Kingdom/Blizzard Beach.

Downtown DisneyMarketplace, Downtown Disney West Side, Downtown Disney Pleasure Island: Before 4 p.m., take the monorail to the Ticket & Transportation Center, and transfer to the bus marked Downtown Disney. After 4 p.m. there will be direct Downtown Disney buses from the resort.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: Before 4pm, take the monorail to the ticket and transportation center, and transfer to the bus marked Downtown Disney. After 4pm, there will be direct transportation from the resort.

Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park: Take the Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park/Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park

TIPS

Book a table at the California Grill to coincide with the Magic Kingdom fireworks, the view is fantastic!

Watch the Electrical Water Pageant from the boat dock each night.

When the parks have closed early, hop on the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge, or Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

Consider walking to the Magic Kingdom at busy times. The monorail can get quite full, and makes stops at the TTC, Polynesian and Grand Floridian before reaching the Magic Kingdom.

Take advantage of the many recreation options - volleyball, tennis, watersports, boating...

For the ultimate view of the Magic Kingdom and surrounding area, go parasailing from Sammy Duvall's Watersports Center at the Contemporary.

In the Grand Concourse, by the monorail station is a large floor to ceiling mosiac. One of the goats has five legs. Can you spot it?

Naturally price is a factor :)
Here are the differences. I wasn't able to find the price difference though I would imagine there is quite a difference.

Concierge service includes personalized front desk and guest services, turndown service, refrigerator, & coffeemaker.
Concierge Cast Members can help with priority seating reservations, & itinerary planning advice.

There are two separate concierge levels at the Contemporary: Tower Club on the 12th floor, and full concierge on the 14th floor.

Tower Club concierge only provides a light continental breakfast (danish, bagels, muffins, donuts, cereal, fruit, juice, hot drinks), and afternoon snacks (cookies, brownies, hot drinks). It is only staffed from 7am-4pm.

14th floor concierge offers a full continental breakfast, snacks and appetizers throughout the day, and desserts, cheese & wine in the evening. Soda, bottled water and other beverages are available all day. The lounge is staffed from 7am-10pm.
