Ok I need a little help. I just found out about the deal that disney is doing with getting the x-tra 2 when you buy 5. And we are THINKING about taking advantage of this, the only problem is where to stay.
AKL is one of the two of our favorite resorts (POLY is the other) and we would stay there again in a heart beat. Then we decided that maybe we should save a little money and try a moderate resort this time and are thinking about POFQ.

My mom and I are going to be in disney the 1st week of december(for the doll and teddybear convention at epcot) and we are staying at the AKL.... but it wont be the same since Im not going to be with my DH.
DH and I arent planning on going back till June 2005 and we are staying at the POLY.

Anyway sorry for the babbling.

If you had to choose one of these resorts which would you chose?
Or maybe you have another idea?

We just finished our vacation in which we spent the first three nights at POFQ and the last 8 at AKL. My family actually preferred POFQ. It is a small resort so no matter where your room is, you are never far from the food court, the pool, or the bus stop. Since it is smaller, you don't get a feeling of it being overly crowded. Even though it does share a bus with POR, POFQ is the first stop both picking up and dropping off. Just MHO. I am sure others will soon be along with differing opinions! :)

Well, I would pick AKL because I think it is a great resort.

BUT since you will be going there for another trip and trying a new resort (and saving some $$) I would probably say try the POFQ for this trip.

I've always loved POFQ. It has a certain intimacy. Don't know if I can put my finger on what it is exactly. Just a nice friendliness and laid back feeling. I haven't stayed there in a long, long time, but of the moderate resorts, it certainly was my favourite The fact that it's a smaller resort means you're close to everything. And the pool is very cool. The sea serpent (is that what he is?) slide is a Disney icon. AKL is a fabulous resort, but it is so overwhelmingly huge. If you want to save a bit of money, I don't think you can go wrong at POFQ. You've got that nice boat trip to DTD, too.

I would have to say POFQ. Especially since you are going to AKL later. You would save some and it is a nice area to stay. It has just been remodeled too.

We loved the AKL and would stay there again anytime. I have another idea if you decide to spend the $$. How about WL? I think it would be the same $$ as the AKL and it is a stunning place.

I agree with the WL idea!! It is breathtaking when you walk in!! However Port Orleans is very nice and can be a money saver!!

We also just got back from PO. We stayed at Riverside though. We did take the boat over to FQ on a couple of different occasions. We LOVED this resort. I liked it a LOT better than when we stayed at AKL.

I say save the $$$$ and get a new/different resort experience!!

POFQ. It is much smaller than Riverside and you will save the $$$. Since you are staying at AKL in December I would go with POFQ. We stayed there and LOVED IT!

Just got back from both and IMO I could spend says at AKL just by itself.
POFQ is a smaller resort and gorgeous in it's own rights, but my heart will forever be at AKL!
Don't get me wrong, for a moderate there are too many pros staying at POFQ. Smaller resort means fewer people, after too many nights seeing the crowds on the buses at all the other moderates I was glad to be in POFQ. My DGF and I had a king bed and a water view, the room was huge. I dare say it was larger than my room at AKL.
POFQ is a wonderful hotel and though it's not the AKL, it's a REALLY good choice. When I go back (hopefully in Dec as well!!) I would love to stay at POFQ, but I am determined to stay at all the resorts, so well just see.

How will you get your favorite coffee if you stay at POFQ? I would go to AKL as it has special meaning to you and your DH expecially if you won't be staying at that resort next time you two go together.

You are right. I have to have that coffee.

We are still thinking talking/thinking about it. We did agree on going in the middle of Sept if we do go. We just dont know if we want to spend the x-tra at the AKL or save some seeing as how x-mas wouldnt be that far off and my mother and I are going in the 1st week of December.
So many things to consider my brain is starting to hurt.

You know I didn't like Mickeys "swell" coffee all that much! I was really surpirsed to find that I got not only a Coffee maker at PO-FQ, but a pack of mickeys swell coffee everyday!
Yes I did have coffee every morning, but I was upset about a couple things.
1) the coffee package was too small, only containing 2: sweet n lows, sugars and creamers.
2) the cream at PO-FQ was in a dispenser, so I had to get a small ketchup cup to put it in to go back to the room. The Mara at AKL actually had little creamer cups, but I didnt have a coffee maker in my room, go figure!

Just came back from a stay at POFQ and loved it. Really liked that is was small and as someone else already posted you feel close to everything. Rooms are nice and new, the pool was alot of fun and the food court wasn't mobbed. Would defiantely recommend it as a top moderate hotel.

I agree about the mickeys swell coffee. The coffee that we are talking about is the african coffee that they serve in AKL at Bomas. Its made in a pressed coffee pot. We tried it the first day that we got to AKL and we were hooked. When we got home I ran out and bought the coffee pot. I just have to stock up on the coffee when we go.
