Port Orleans Question
I am getting very confused about Port Orleans. I know that this is a HUGE resort and is divided up into French Quarter and Riverside. That is correct, right?? I have just heard it called so many different things I just wanted to check which one is which. French Quarter is the one that just reopened, after a refurb, but is well for lack of a better word more "Frenchy"???? Riverside is the one that looks a little more like the bayou?? Right???

Re: Port Orleans Question
Port Orleans French Quarter is the resort that has a New Orleans theme. Port Orleans Riverside, formerly known as Dixie Landings, has two themed sides - the Bayou side and the Mansion side.

Re: Port Orleans Question
Disneyluva,
We really like Port Orleans - Riverside. It is our favorite moderate resort. Very casual and comfy.. Haven't stayed at the French Quarter. ![]()

Re: Port Orleans Question
Just got back from FQ, and let me tell you, as pretty as riverside is, I was so glad we stayed at FQ instead.
FQ has one bus stop, riverside 4. being a smaller resort walking is no task at FQ. I did stop in to check out the pool and foodcourt at riverside and it was larger, due to the number of people that stay there. Like others have said FQ is more intimate, as for my fave, well it is for now. I won't know until I stay at all the moderates to see which is my fave! ![]()

. (I thought I remembered the buses stopping at FQ first when we were at Dixie Landings about 10 years ago.) Also, any suggestions for us (buildings to request, things to see there, etc.) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

here's a link for the po-fq map here. I hope that helps. I was in building 6, at the top left tip of the L facing the sassagoula river. Aside from a walk to the parking lot the first day unload, it wasn't much of a walk anywhere. To be honest the resort felt a little small, as compared to the other resorts I visited. if you look at the map you'll see which ones are best, but I can tell you for a fact that 4 is closest to the bus stop, Ashley and I cut through bldg 4 so many times! Oh and FQ is the first stop for all buses except MK. FQ is lucky enough to have a bus that goes only to and from MK with no stops at riverside. So for all other parks, add about 10 minutes going through riverside, depending on crowds. Oh and the boat to DTD is so nice from Po-fq, plus you don't have to wait for change over from riverside!

Re: Port Orleans Question
I've stayed at PO Riverside....it was pretty blah. We walked to the FQ and its a whole lot more Spirited with its great Disney theming and Mardi Gras feeling. Plus a much better pool. I wish I had stayed there.
PS. Fun Fact! Did you know that the longest boat transport (launch) in all of WDW is from the PO Riverside to Downtown Disney? I learned that from one of the skippers! DC 4 Ever!

Re: Port Orleans Question
I have to say that I have only stayed at POR for all of my 30 or so trips maybe it is 40 I lost count ,but what I like about POR is the fact is it is just the opposite of most things disney it is relaxing an quiet and it has six pools one main and 5 almost private pools ,about the buses if you stay at the magnolia bend side of POR you can catch the buses on the last pick up and off you go to the parks. everyone likes something different but the beauty and comfort is for me at POR ....you can ride bikes ,rent boats ,go fishing , take a horse back ride or just go for a relaxing walk around the grounds....then off to the parks and more fun...by the way we just got back and it was quite a site to see the new ride at animal kingdom being built ,building tracks and all were in plaain view ...can't wait

Re: Port Orleans Question
We have stayed at POR many times...it is my favorite moderate resort the only thing I wished it had was chairs so that you can sit outside your room. We love to walk around at night after the parks it was very relaxing. The piano player in the lounge is a must see very good. We stayed in building 14 very close to the food court and the pool. |
