downsouthtigger, you are absolutely right!

I work in customer service, and when my fellow employees come up as customers, I may josh and joke with them in a more familiar fashion, but that doesn't mean I give them less service. I was just saying that maybe that's what those (terribly misguided, less-than-magical, lol) fellow CM's were thinking!

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

oh no place like Disney, of course! I work in a large supermarket currently (for the past 6 years). But I've been in retail most of my working life (25 years) and if anything, I find on occasion I tend to treat fellow employees (dare I say it) with more favoritism than a customer.

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

I'm really sorry that you had that happen on your honeymoon. I remember getting NOTHING special on our Honeymoon way back in 1992. We stayed at the CBR, and we paid for a certain type of room and view, but had a parking lot view. Problem was, we did get a refund, but it had to come from our travel agent, so it would have been nice to have the extra money for the trip. But we didn't even get a Congratulations, and of course at that time we didn't say anything when we went to dinner because we didn't know any better (oh where was the internet then). So we just accepted that we got a crappy room, basically no service, but still loved going to Disney World. I wish I had known what I know today.

I would have hated to pay for the Concierge then get treated like that, I honestly hope they give you your money back, or at least part of it, because it doesn't sound as though you got anything from Concierge. Thank God for Linda!!!

I went to WDW when I was 18, it was with a friend of mine, and we weren't treated very well at the hotel we stayed at (non Disney), and I honestly know it was probably our age, as I got older I was treated better. We were treated great later when we drove to the Beach place we stayed at though....so go figure.

LOL. Al Gore hadn't invented it for us yet!!

Yeah, whenever you have a birthday or an anniversary you should practically scream it from the top of your lungs. You really do get special treatment at Disney for these kinds of events.

That's true, I think we had it in my workplace a couple of years later LOL. Darn it!

Yes, I will definately do that if we go at a special time again. Maegan was excited to get sprinkled with pixie dust when she got her hair cut, so anything and everything there seems magical to her. Just being there is so special since she has only been once. I'm trying to plan a vacation for next spring, it seems sooooo far, but I really have to do saving up before we can go, we live too far to make it very often (at least this time dh said we can fly thank goodness). I hope to stay 10 days, but we'll have to see what we can do with school.

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

I'm so sorry to read your story.
I'm currently reading Walt Disney's bio by Bob Thomas. I've been going to WDW since 1979, and I can remember when it was done Walt's way. Reading the book gives one insight into how Walt wanted DisneyWorld to be. It's a shame that hit spirt, imagination, and sense of service to the guests has continually faltered these past years.

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

You guys think you get the "cold shoulder" from CMs or other guests when you tell them you are at a budget WDW hotel? Just wait till you stay off-property! You could be staying in the Presidential Suite at the Four Seasons, and you'd still get treated like a second-class citizen by some of the snotty guests in the Boardwalk Bar!

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

You know,I park my car at the Beach Club all the time when I'm going to Epcot or MGM(like today),and I am sure people look at me and say to themselves,"What the he-double hockey sticks-is she doing here;she obviously doesn't belong." I just say to myself that I have just as much right to be here as anyone else and no one is going to make me feel any differently.

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

I think I have said this before, but when I fly I get the same look from passengers. You see them baording, and then they realize I am in their row. They have this look like, "WOW, I really don't want to be stuck next to this annoying teen for the next two and a half hours." I show them up by keeping my mouth shut, reading, doing school work, and listening to music. You should have seen the looks I got when I sat up in First Class with a free upgrade that I recieved.

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

Worse things can happen than bad concierge service on your honeymoon. We got married very young- 21 going on 22 (I had a cushy government job: Submarine Service) and we were...you know...In luv... so we didn't know jack. We booked at a nice hotel on the wedding night and we were scheduled to leave at 5am for Negril, Jamaica. We didn't plan on sleeping much on the wedding night-- but what kept us up wasn't exactly what we had in mind. Apparently, we booked the same night that the hotel was hosting a girls volley ball convention. We were up until the limo came with screaming 14 to 18 year old girls running up and down the hall ways, pounding on the walls, running around outside, setting off car alarms. The fire marshall visited twice that evening and took "roll call" of how many guests were in each room-- yes ours got counted, too. Very romantic. No matter what happens at Disney-- a place ironically enough designed for hordes of kids-- we don't expect anything to top that.

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

Jon, so sorry to hear how badly the hotel experience was! I know from your posts how hard you worked trying to make it a perfect honeymoon. I feel so badly about it. Please keep us posted. (I hope you get a big refund...you certainly ought to!!)

Re: Warning about Boardwalk Inn Concierge

I finally got a response.

My wife and I were sitting in TCBY yesterday and I got a call on my cell phone. It was a lady from Disney.

She said she was calling me in response to my letter, and started apologizing. She was very very nice and sweet.

She apologized for us not receiving a King sized bed in our room, but said that policy was that they try to accommodate guest’s requests, but can't promise you receive them. She did say that she really wished the staff had granted our request for our honeymoon.

She talked to me about the concierge staff not checking my special room keys, and said that guests really can't even get onto the floor with the Concierge rooms because you have to use your gold key to make the elevator go to the concierge floor. I had to correct her there. I told her we never had to use our room keys in the elevator, and that I think the Boardwalk Inn concierge area was on the same floor with standard rooms, but you had to walk through a door into a separate wing of the floor. There is a desk there at the entrance, and a key coded door there, but the door was always open and nobody was ever at the desk.

She apologized for the lack of service, and said that the staff should have gone the extra mile for us, when they obviously did nothing.

She said that we experienced some attitudes and behaviors that were unacceptable for Disney CMs and that she was sharing my letter with the Boardwalk Manager and the Concierge manager.

She also said that she was very glad that Linda was there to help us, and I expressed how thankful we were to have her.

We talked about some other issues and at the end, she said that in order to make us understand their concern with our issues, they are sending us Four unnamed and undated tickets to the Parks. She said the tickets would never expire. She said we could use them to get both of us into the parks for two days, or for one of us to enter the parks for four days.

She also said that they would send us a "small" (she really emphasized the small haha) gift as a congratulations for our wedding.

So, it looks like we will get about $200 worth of peace offerings, guessing that the Park tickets are about $50 each now off the top of our head, plus whatever the gift is.

I guess I have to be happy with that, but the concierge rooms cost us much more than that.
