Where in OKW?
We're planning a trip in May & staying at OKW for the first time. I'm trying to plan ahead (what else is new!!) & I'm trying to figure out where we should ask for our room to be. We won't have a car, so I'm thinking close to a bus stop. Any other ideas?

Re: Where in OKW?
Hi, we stayed there last year. We did have a rental car, even without one its fairly convienent to walk to the bus stops or main areas. you can call ahead and request buildings that are closer to the restaurant, and general store. there are also several pool options at OKW. Good luck.

Re: Where in OKW?
Oh, you are going to just love OKW!! We went with my sister and her family last March and want to stay permanantly!!! We stayed in building 18, pretty close to the bus stop, but far enough away not to hear the buses airbrakes as they went through the turnaround (those poor people up near the turnaround). We stayed on the 3rd floor which had a beautiful view of the golf course, pond and property. It was so quiet at night...except for the croaking of the bull frogs, but it was absolutely perfect. You need to check out BDavis932's trip report dated 03/04. If you have small kids, I don't know if the 3rd floor is the place you...carrying strollers up 3 flights of stairs (no elevators) can be a bit much when you come dragging in at midnight after 15 hours in the parks. Or if you have a car on property, you may consider stowing the stroller in the trunk so you don't have to mess with it in the room or on the stairs.... Either way, you'll LOVE OKW and you'll have a wonderful time! Make sure to give us all the details in a trip report when you get back!!

Re: Where in OKW?
Old Key West is our absolute favourite DVC property. There really is no comparison between the suites here and the other properties. That being said. We've stayed at OKW for the past 5 years and last time I think we hit on the perfect location. Only I don't remember what building it was!! It was the first building on the right when you turned on to Old Turtle Pond Road. Bus stop right outside. Across from tennis courts. Gorgeous view of stream and golf course, very quiet, and a short walk to the main pool and Olivia's.

Re: Where in OKW?
Found an old map of OKW. The building was No. 32. I would say 30 through 33 would be pretty ideal. One thing to consider is that the buildings that were built first, (11 through 22, I think) have only one door to the bathroom in the one bedroom suites. And that one is through the bedroom. The newer buildings have 2 doors to the bathroom. One through the laundry room and one through the bedroom.

Re: Where in OKW?
ilvminnie, like my sister said, building 18 was PERFECT. VERY close to one of the pools and a bus stop. We stayed in Building 31 once before and it was nice, too, but building 18 just seemed perfect. Our room, our parents, and A goofy families room were all non-smoking.
PS, if you have a view of the water, be sure to "duck" out on your balcony after midnight and listen to all the bull frogs sing....it was just lovely! We were in room 1831 (a studio). Here is the beautiful view from our balcony... ![]()

Re: Where in OKW?
Thanks everyone. Think we WILL try to get building 18. Looks great. Rafikiman says he's ready to go NOW!!! We'll only get a studio. It'll be me, Rafikiman, DD & (hopefully) her best friend. That's kind of why we decided to try OKW this time - so DD & BF would have a queen bed instead of the pull out sofa which is generally fine when it's just us & DD.
Thanks again to everyone for your input. ![]()

Re: Where in OKW?
Try for room number 1831 (if you don't mind 3 flights of stairs!!) Like I posted above, the view is just great! The pool is just around the corner, right across from the bus stop....it is just perfect. The rooms on the left side of building 18 don't have a view of the water, but still lovely.
