Advice needed !!

We have changed our plans and will stay at PC from 8/4 - 8/12, then move over to POR to be there when Dixie arrives. Now this is my plan, but if you have some advice on moving from one resort to another please let me have it.
I think it would make things go smoother if I drove over to POR early that morning and checked in. DH and the girls could take the bus to what ever park we are going to that day, and I could park the van at POR after check in and take the bus to met them.

That seems logical. Then you don't have to worry about it after the parks. You can just go straight to POR.

Re: Advice needed !!

Sounds good. We have, at times, been able to check in as early as 8:00am. Since it will take two buses to get from PC to POR. You could meet up at a spot at Downtown Disney and then take the boat back to POR. It takes a little longer than the bus but is much more charming. Just a thought.

well since we are driving down I thought it would make it easier just moving the van when I go to check in. We always check in around 7 a.m so I could get over there ..check in, park the van, catch the bus and maybe even be at the park with in a few minutes of DH and the girls. think the thing I am dreading the most packing up for the move, but I think I could pack up just what we need for the the remainder of our stay ..everything else in the big suitcase can be left in the van and it would mean packing up for the trip home would be faster / easier.

Re: Advice needed !!

Tink, this sounds like a very interesting idea (staying at more than one resort). We are planning on staying at PC when we go in Feb., but I would like to check out AKL or maybe even stay one or two nights at the Contemporary again. Is this easy to accomplish with reservations?

royorb1 I book my trips using Mouseketrips (run by Mickey the same person that runs DC) and all I did was tell them--- this is what we want to do .. and Mouseketrips took care of it .. but you should try AKL ..it is amazing!! I know a lot of DC'ers do split time at different resorts, so I bet someone else can tell you how to do it through reservations.
this is our first time splitting our stay between resorts ..but if all works out ok we may try again splitting between a deluxe and value :)

Tink, keep in mind that Pop Century (Bell services) will move your bags over (for free!) just tell them the day before you need it moved over.

Re: Advice needed !!

Tink -
Your plans make logical sense to me. Why make the whole party check-in when you can easily get it done while they roam a bit. Staying at two resorts sonds like fun and the PC seems to be one of your favorite so how cna you lose there? All will go perfect.

Re: Advice needed !!

Your idea sounds great Tink. When we changed resorts, I called the Poly first thing in the AM, and they told me our room was already ready!! So we packed right up, said "goodbye, AKL" and headed over.

We were going to take advantage of the move by Disney, but decided since we had a car it would be quicker for us just to pack up and move ourselves, it really wasn't a big deal at all.

Nothing beats staying at 2 different resorts, it's like having 2 different vacations!!!

As far as reservations, you just tell Disney that you want to check out, and into another resort on the day you plan on changing. It was real easy to do. You do have 2 different ressie #'s though. I recommend it!!!

it would sure be great!!! and since it seems my idea gets ya'll approval, I am going to go ahead and go with the plan.
I have to admit the more I have thought about it, packing up everything but a few changes of clothes for the last 3 days will sure make it much easier the day we check out of POR.

I know it does seem it would be just as easy to move everything my self. Sending DH and the girls off to what ever park, its not like they have never been to POR .. we stayed there back while it was still Dixielandings. And DH hates to waste a minute of Park time :)

Re: Advice needed !!

Sounds like you have a good plan. We did a resort hop on our trip last month. We basically put everything into the suitcases and didn't worry about packing it well. (I also had taken an extra empty duffel bag with us to throw our loose odds and ends in so we could "pack up" quickly.

Luckily, our room was ready when we got there. I would think that yours would be ready since you are changing early Friday - and you would miss the rush of weekend guests checking in (a great strategy on your part!). So go for it! The idea of calling ahead was a good one - that way they know that you are on your way and will hopefully be ready for you.

Probably easier to send DH to the parks so he is not missing his park time..

Hope your transfer all goes smoothly. Time's getting close.... how exciting!

Re: Advice needed !!

I have been doing a bit more planning for this move.. checked the map for the shortest route from PC to POR. Also checked which park is Early Entry ( MK ) that thursday. So that way I can send them off early as well :) I also kinda considered that if everyone is a bit slower then me that morning, they could just take the bus to Epcot instead. I think I will use the calling ahead idea too .. just before I leave the room for POR. I know from experience there is seldom any waiting when you check in early.
