Anyone stayed at Port Orleans - French Quarter?

Has anyone stayed at the Port Orleans - French Quarter?

I know I began a thread about the value resorts, but know I'm thinking that I might want somewhere quieter and smaller. Most of the reviews I've found online have been positive, especially since the renovation.
The pool with the slide seems like it would be great for our little guy who turns 3 in September.

Also, does anyone know if all the rooms with king beds are without a tub? Are all rooms with king beds handicap accessible?

Thank you!!!!

I've never stayed but the we've visited the pool and food court several times since it is just around the corner from our home resort of Old Key West. It looks like a wonderful resort and the pool are is great! Depending on when you are traveling, you may be able to get a discount code to make the price near those at the value resorts.

Re: Anyone stayed at Port Orleans - French Quarter?

We just stayed at POFQ last month and really liked it. We have 2 boys (soon to be 6 and soon to be 3) and they both LOVED that slide in the pool. There are pictures of them going down it posted in my Trip Report if you want to see for yourself:

http://www.disneycentral.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=10899

We also really liked the food court and atmosphere at the resort. It's a lot smaller than the other moderates. There's only one bus stop at the front entrance, so everythings pretty centrally located and easy to get to. There's also a boat that you can take down the river to get to Downtown Disney.
Hope that helps!

we stayed there a couple years ago, and found that we liked the all stars just as much for the price. I think it all comes down to money. If you're williing to shell out the extra bucks, it's nice, but when we did it, all we could think of was how we could have spent that money if we would have stayed at the All Stars.

With the discount codes that were available to Disney Visa holders at the time we booked, the difference between the values and moderates was minimal (less than $20 a night). We felt that the slightly bigger room and closer proximity was worth that much to us. I also think the atmosphere was much better at POFQ. We enjoyed the All Stars when we stayed there, but the atmosphere and scenery at French Quarter was much more beautiful. That was apparent to us as soon as we walked in the lobby.

good idea. If you can get the discount, I'd say go on right ahead!

Re: Anyone stayed at Port Orleans - French Quarter?

POFQ is much smaller than the AS resorts. Plus it has a sit down restaurant as well as a food court. It was nice to have that option at the end of a long day. For the record, I LOVE POFQ. The pool is great for kids. Food Court, restaurant , pools, main lobby and store are centrally located and convenient to every room. It is so clean that you could probably eat off of the ground oh yeah, and It has a hot tub for those big kids to relax!

Hope this helps

Re: Anyone stayed at Port Orleans - French Quarter?

We just got back the week before last from our trip and we stayed at the POFQ. We loved it! My husband and I had stayed there 11 years earlier. This was our first trip back to Disney since then but now it was with our 6 yr old. He loved the pool and the game room of course. I really liked it all because it was nice and quiet. We did have one little problem with checking in though. The girl that took care of us was didn't do her job correctly so I had to call and complain about her but other than that it was a very pleasant stay. We were in building 1 facing the parking lot. It was a pretty long walk to the main area but not too bad. I would suggest something closer than building 1 if I ever stayed there again. Also because POFQ and POR are together they share buses so you have to go to every stop at POR to pick everyone up. It's a very quiet peaceful resort though. I definitely recommend it.

Re: Anyone stayed at Port Orleans - French Quarter?

POFQ is our favorite moderate resort. Even though you share a bus with POR, POFQ is picked up first...and more importantly...DROPPED OFF FIRST!! Great on those nights when you are pooped out from park hopping! The four of us actually preferred POFQ to AKL.

Actually, POFQ does NOT have a sit down restaurant anymore. They closed it when they merged with Dixie Landings (I think that may have been part of the reason for the merge). If you want to go sit down, you have to go over to Riverside to eat at Boatwrights. We never did that, though. We just ate at the parks or food court. Also, not all of our buses stopped at Riverside. During busy times at park opening & closing they went straight to FQ. Also, once we only stopped at the front entrance to Riverside. There were only a few trips where we did all the stops, and yes, FQ is the first on and first off, so it usually wasn't too bad.

Re: Anyone stayed at Port Orleans - French Quarter?

We are considering staying at POFQ for our next trip. I was wondering if the HUGE horsefly's are still abundant. My DH and DD welt up from them as well as mosquitos. I don't want to hear a lot of complaining and would rather stay somewhere else if they are still a problem.

I don't remember seeing any huge horsefly's. I didn't notice anymore bugs there then were anywhere in DisneyWorld.

Our favorite!!!!
Going back Dec 5th.

Very quite!
It's the 1st bus stop, so you always get a seat. AND(!!!) it's the 1st on the return trip.
