Re: AKL or Wilderness Lodge??

I love both of these resorts, but the AKL is an experince all on it's own. It like a mini park with the animals and such. The bunk beds can no way fit two people on them without them being crammed in. You should call about 5 in a room and see what you options are first. Again, I loved both of these places and would have a hard time picking between the two for myself.

WL has a nice little beach area, a working geyser, & a nice pool that is fed from inside the lodge itself!!! You can stand on a bridge over a stream in the lobby & watch the water run outside, down a waterfall & into the pool. Watch out for the ducks, though...they like that pool, too.
We love Wilderness lodge, we are going next month, second time we have stayed their. It's great

I'm curious, crystalrp. What made you feel like poor relations with a pool view? My mother and I were upgraded to pool view and we thought it was great!!

We had the problem of a 5 member family wanting to stay at the WL last year. We were told that we could stay there in a Jr. Suite or get 2 rooms. IMO that's just a lot of money. Families with more than 4 members are SOL when it comes to a regular room at the WL (we practically begged....wait a minute, we did beg) and the answer was the same - NO. We were heartbroken, because we love the WL.

We ended up in a regular room at the Poly, so it wasn't all bad!

We loved Wilderness Lodge, and can't wait to stay there again. The suite was big enough, kitchen proved invaluable. The themed pool is great and the overall ambience of the resort was unforgetable. We are staying at Boardwalk this year, but will be returning to WL .

Re: AKL or Wilderness Lodge??

We stayed at AKL last November - our first trip to WDW since 8/8/88 (15 years). We were entralled. Every time we came through that front door into the lobby, it just took our breath away. We loved every second of our stay there (and since we hadn't been to WDW in 15 years and had a lot of parks to see and do and eat through we didn't have a LOT of time at AKL). My question is with this strain of email - what is the fascination of WL? I can see that AKL used the same basic blue prints for the hotel but IMHO AKL is so much more magical and awesome!

Re: AKL or Wilderness Lodge??

Depends on your vacation activities. Stayed at both and staying at AKL for the 2nd time in Sept. We LOVE AKL and you can have a pool view, there's so many places to see the animals. Lots of hidden nooks for viewing with big rocking chairs. Although I feel that you should have the Savannah view experience once. We did and it was amazing. No water to rent boats but the pool area is so much better than WL. At WL I felt cramped at the pool and that the chairs were on top of each other.
The bus rides from WL are really long because they also pick up the camp grounds that seem really far away. It is very convenient to the MK by boat launch and you can take the Ferry to the TTC.
If I had to choose...AKL hands down.

Say, what sort of view did you have? I keep wondering if we could get away with one of the cheap rooms, or if the parking lot view would really kill it. We find that we don't really spend time in our room, anyway.

We have stayed at AKL twice. Both times we were in one of the two bedrooms suites at the end with a savanah view (There were 7 of us). But I would take any room to stay there. It isn't just the view from your room, it is the whole atmosphere of the resort. It is just different from any other. We are considering WL for our next trip but I just keep pulling back to the AKL. There won't be as many of us this time so we will just be in a regular room.

There are many places to view the savanahs from, not just a room balcony. And you will want to go to all of them because you see different animals from different areas. And besides, both times we had some kind of crane outside our balcony that would start it's call just as the sun started peeping over the horizon each morning. Worse than any rooster!

All of that said, I think any room at AKL would be great.
