Re: Disturbing trend part 2
I noticed a trend of misbehaving children everywhere.....I don't blame the kids. It actaully a trend of different or less diciplined parenting. In a world of "what about me?" some children forget others are even in their universe. That is parenting, not children. So before we get upset at little Johnny who is cursing and running like a maniac, let's get ticked that his mother is making him that way.
I have had to try and control the choke-em urge many times at WDW and anywhere for that matter. Truth is, we (as parents) all have different ideas and techniques for parenting and there is alwasy going to be at least on critic of your paticular style. My best advice and one I try to practice (most of the time) is walk away....run if you must, but ignore other people's children if they annoy you. I only loose my cool if the child is doing something to my DD or me. Other than that...they are not my problem...thankfully. I do remember lossing my cool to a mother who told her three kids to get in line in front of my DD...that was ridiculous and the Mom's fault for her ignorance. If you are stuck in a room next to loud ones...adults even, simply call the front desk and ask to have a different room and explain why. I know the people who were staying next to me and my DD probally wanted to kill us at 12:30am when we were up laughing and having a blast like it was 8pm.....sorry whoever that was. ![]()

Children need expectations and they need to be upheld!!! My kids can have issues but they know what we expect of them and basically for the most part they do a good job!!! Parenting is very tough!!! When on vacation there are times I think we all kinda "lose it" a little because it is vacation!!! Behavior is an all the time thing, however, unfortunately if you have children in a pool they are going to splash, I mean, that is what it is for right?? Now hanging from the chandeleir(sp?) would be very unacceptable!! I am not trying to offend anyone either!!! It is just harder than you think if you do not have your own kids!! And Jenny I do not hold my tongue when I see a child out of hand!! I respectfully correct them or ask them to stop !! You should too!!! I hope your trip this September is better!!! and I truly hope this does not sour you on children!!! Mine are the light of my life!!! Even when they misbehave!!! ![]()

Re: Disturbing trend part 2
I don't think that anyone wanted to get into a debate about this subject. My point about my children, and most others, having their moments was not to say that we allow them to misbehave. At least I don't. It only states that children get worn out quicker than adults do and allot of families try to do the whole day without a break. I also am concerned about parents just standing by and letting this happen. My children would never get away with dropping their food on the floor like you described. But I have seen it happen. I am sorry if Jenny is upset about children acting up. It isn't always what it appears to be. My son happens to be ADHD and there are times that he gets overly stimulated and has a tantrum. I immediately work to calm him down and he does take medication but I imagine that if I didn't know better and just happened to be there I would think that he was just being bad. I think the point is that as parents we try to raise our children to be well adjusted and to act accordingly when out in public, but sometimes there are circumstances that affect the norm.

Re: Disturbing trend part 2
I am sitting here thinking about this very hard. Here is the bottom line: kids have bad moments same as you do. They have bad moments in public and at home. I have bad moments at home, work, driving and anywhere. Hello!!! I am human as is my DD and everyone else that I know. Kids are just little people. People compliment my child's manners often, but that certainly does not make her perfect or above anyone else's kids. She and I actually had a squabble in MK over nothing because we were just tired and needed a break and we were 30 and 9 at the time.
queensmomma - a two year old cannot be responsible for their actions like a child who can totally articulate what and how they feel. No worries dear. Your opinion and comments are on the mark and realistic. To the comment made about letting your child "let his/her hair down on vacation".....YUP! Guilty as charged. I let her stay up later, maybe be a little more silly...hello it's WDW home of children! I don't, however, allow my DD to act rudely to other people, cut in line or bother other people. If she acts like a brat, well, sorry out of my control. I just simply leave the park and take a break. It's amazing how a tiny little swim break will change both of our attitiudes. To the comment about berating or yelling at you child in public: I find that disgraceful and humilitating to the child. If you don't like their behavior, take them back to the resort. Talk to them in privacy. I hate people who "parent" their child loudly and obnoxiously for all those to hear. We hear you lady...you are my hero! This thread is pointless at this time and just causing people's feeling to be hurt. Let's just agree to disagree and forget this please.

Re: Disturbing trend part 2
Ok I'll begin by apologizing for the terminology I used such as vermin.
And I think some of you are SELECTIVELY reading what I've posted. I wasn't talking about kids being kids by acting rambunctious and having fun on vacation. And I wasn't talking about two year olds who are tired and hot. I was talking about parents who refuse to keep naughty children in line when they are destroying the nice time for other families and children. Unless you are one of those parents, there is no need for you to feel hurt or offended. And I am truly sorry if I have hurt someone's feelings if they misunderstood my sentiments.

Sometimes, choosing the right words, or the right order for those words can be difficult on a posting board.
I too, apologize for having said anything to offend. That was certainly not my intention.

Re: Disturbing trend part 2
Hello everyone,
Yes children need to let their down too! but it is the parents resposnability to manage them. As a disney dad of a 2 1/2 and 6 year old, that is our goal. Children will act up now and then, but that's when you excuse yourself and take them away from the situation. I would tend to think it is usually the parents fault, if you will, that the kids areacting up. Proper rest stops should be and planning is a must, you just can't drag them everywhere. We work with our children, and are also currently in the process right now, for our cruise and Disney trip in December. I am very proud to say that we have had several younger and older couples comment on our children. In fact our children love Disney so much, typically they are at their best...

Re: Disturbing trend part 2
My 2 kids are grown so when we travel it is without kids. I go to WDW to relax and get away from the real world and my 12 kids in my class (I teach preschool). So I can totally relate.
I too have seen kids that are overexcited, over stimulated, and overtired. But imagine how difficult it must be to disipline a child in a world that is geared for kids and "the happiest place on earth" . Everyone has to remember that kids of all ages react in different ways to the stimulation and excitement that is WDW. And unlike us older "children at heart" who can do as we please, they must follow behind their parents, and do as they're told. Can the adults here put themselves in a childs shoes and imagine what it would be like to go to WDW and have no control of your day? WOW! I would throw a major fit too. There are a few solutions: you could request a different room, this worked for us once when I swear the family above us bounced basketballs all day. You could just ignore the behavior, life is too short to allow someone elses kids to ruin your vacation. Happy Vacation!!!

Re: Disturbing trend part 2
I am 14 years old. When I go to a park, I hate how I don't really get to have an autograph signed, or my picture taken by a character at DL. I'm hoping it's different in WDW. I know that it's important for kids to get their fill, but I just started going to these places and I would really like an autograph too. Is this selfish? I don't think so but I could be completely wrong.
