Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

Hi,

My wife calls me at work today, telling me that she had been on waltdisneyworld.com. My first thought was she made a $600 per night reservation for 11 nights at Ploynesian conceirge. However my worst fear was wrong .

She actually was talking about how if we stay at a moderate instead of a deluxe we could stay 14 days instead of 10 or 11. I know that she really wants to stay at the Polynesian of GF so I am surprised she even mentioned this. Now mind you I am all up for staying two weeks at WDW, but I am wondering especially around Christmas time when the decorations are out, what would we really miss by staying at a moderate instead of a deluxe. Also would you move down a resort category if that ment 3 or 4 more extra days at WDW.

Thanks,

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

I would stay deluxe for 10-11 days (never going to be able to afford $3000 to stay on site but IF I had the $$, I'd be all over it) Depends on how long you really want to stay. I LOVE WDW, but 10 days in a row would be more than enough for me, so I'd rather stay Deluxe for less time.

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

Hello again! How about 3 nights at a moderate like Port Orleans Riverside, or even a savannah view at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (or Wilderness Lodge, lol!), then move over for 5 nights at the Poly and then the last 5 nights stay at the Grand Floridian. That would be quite a varity and you would experience the best disney has to offer!

Remember....Disney will move your stuff to your new room for free!!!

Wow! 14 days at the World!!! I would stay in a tent at the campground to be able to stay that long! Moderates are still very nice and for a few extra days it would be worth it.

Also, keep in mind that if you think that would be too long at WDW, you don't have to visit Disney each day. Orlando has Sea World, Universal, etc. and you can make some quick day trips to NASA or Daytona Beach or Tampa. All of those places are about an hour away from WDW.

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

Keep in mind that at Christmas time, All the disney resorts bring out the goods. It would be great for y'all to tour all (or several) of the different resorts one day and see all the glitz that only disney can do!!! The chocolate carousel at the Boardwalk resort is phenomenal! and the AKL has a gingerbread village that you wouldn't believe!! So many things to go see and do...13 or 14 would be perfect!

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

BDavis932,

Trust me saving for this isn't going to be easy. It means no other large vacations between now and December except for a three day weekend here or 4 day weekend there where we stick around home.

As far as spliting the stay, we just started thinking about this.

If we stayed four nigths Dec 1-5 at CSR, the next four Dec 5-9 at Ployenesian and the last four or five Dec 9-13 or 14 at GF with a AAA discount of between 15% and 20% it would cost:

CSR-Standard: 119.53 a night (478.12)
Ploynesian-Lagon: 379.10 a night (1516.40)
GF-Lagon: 388.58 a night (1554.32)
Grand total: $3548.84 (who knows with an AP rate what it would be)
Deposit: $887.21 .

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

Although you cannot base your trip costs on this years AP rates, these are the rates for check-ins from 9/30/04 – 12/25/04: It should give you an idea at least.

Moderate Resorts - $79 standard, Value season; $84 standard, Regular season; $99 preferred or king, Regular season

Animal Kingdom Lodge - $135 pool view, Value season; $151 savannah view, Value season; $163 savannah view, Regular season; $335 concierge, Value season

Wilderness Lodge - $121 woods view, Value season; $124 standard view, Regular season; $137 courtyard view, Value season; $151 courtyard view, Value season

Contemporary - $149 garden wing standard view, Regular season; $151 garden view, Value season; $245 tower, Value season

Polynesian - $229 garden view, Regular season; $300 garden view concierge, Value season; $380 lagoon view concierge, Value season

Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club - $199 standard, Value season; $215 standard, Regular season

Grand Floridian - $249 garden view, Value season; $310 lagoon view, Value season
Other resorts, room types and views are available at varying prices!

For all the details, go to http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html#ewp

If you stayed at the Poly garden view, and Grand Floridian Garden view and a moderate standard the grand total would drop down to $2692 including the 11.5% tax, as long as discount codes are approx. the same. But if you stayed at a moderate for 12 nights it would only cost approx $1030.

Here are the dates for the different seasons for 2005: http://www.mousesavers.com/seasondates2005.html Looks like all the resorts consider your travel time as "value season"

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

Me personally, but I would give my eye teeth to stay at the GF and I am a DVC member. Especially during the holidays. That is one classy resort and to get to stay there for 10 days, my gosh, I cannot even imagine. IN my dreams, only in my best and most wonderful disney dreams. You can visit the other disney resorts to see their decorations, but I would stay at GF and experience theirs and just soak it in through every pore.

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

Next May, we're splitting up our trip between Pop Century (value) and Poly. We'll stay five nites at PC and then the last 2 at Poly. That way, we get a great taste of the one resort we've always wanted to stay in (Poly) and not totally break our budget. (And you always want to stay at the Deluxe resort LAST - )

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

We are staying at the POLY in 2 weeks!! We knew we wanted to stay Deluxe this time so we really saved up for this!!! I love the POLY and am very excited!! However, if we were staying 2 weeks we could never stay in a Deluxe(unless we won the lotto) !!

I think splitting the time sounds good!!! Just do the moderate first!!!
Anyway, happy planning!!

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

I think either staying 10 days at a deluxe or splitting the time between a moderate and deluxe is the way to go. 10 days sounds like enough time to get everything in that you want to do. I wish I could afford to stay in a deluxe hotel for that long but so far we havent been able to. It would kill me to pay those rates just for a weekend when you are never really in the room. It has been YEARS since we got to take a vacation that consists of more then 3 nights away thanks to my husband's company.

You will have a great time no matter what you choose!

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

For goodness sake people! Stay at the Deluxe the WHOLE time and just charge it! You don't have to stay in concierge, you can go deluxe and have a lovely garden room! I bit the bullet and charged every penny of the vaca in one shot back in May, and it's been paid off completely now for a few weeks. You only live once, right? Stay at the Deluxe for your entire vacation. Money was meant to be spent.

Re: Moderates and more days or Deluxe and less days

I would also split my time between resorts. Not just for economy sake, but because it's great to be able to experience the different resorts. We spent two weeks at WDW last January and the time just flew by! Transferring resorts at WDW is so easy - your luggage is moved for you, all you have to do is check in at your new resort. Personally, though I'd LOVE to stay at the GF, (not too practical for DVC members) I think 14 days would be too much. My pinkie finger would get sore from holding it up while sipping my tea.
