First WDW Resort Stay help

We are looking in to Coronado Springs, PO Riverside, CBeach or The WDW Swan. No kids this time just for 2 nights. Never stayed in the resort. Can you give any ideas. Thanks, Rob
p.s. just got back from Disneyland had a wonderful time no one there had the place to the four of us!

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

What kind of stuff do you guys like to do after the parks close? Also what parks are you likely to hang out at. Out of the ones you list, we really enjoyed both the CSR and the CBR, but if it was just Linda and I, we might be tempted to do the Swan again. More "adult" dining options and you are within walking distance of the Boardwalk, and EPCOT, plus only a short boat ride to MGM.

Give us more detail, we all love to help plan!

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

We will probably go to downtown disney one evening and go out for nice romantic dinner another. Fireworks show would be great. We were supposed to come during Sept (Ivan) for a week with our kids but our tradeshow was posponed so we drove to Disneyland instead. Now we just have two days at WDW. Being westcoasters we have only been to WDW twice and the last time was '98. Are there any good restaurants with a view or tropical theme in or close to the parks? As far as the resorts, we were looking for a nice pool and/or beach with nice grounds and the "disney" feel since we have never stayed in the resort. Looks like you have been to WDW alot! Thanks for your help!!

We just stayed at the Dolphin, which is the sister to the Swan. It was very nice. The only thing is, it is not connected to Disney (at this point) and the resort is not as themed as other resorts owned by Disney. The reason we stayed at the Dolphin was because we had an Entertainment Book and got 50% off. The only thing is, the 2004 Entertainment Books expire November 1, and the 2005 book does not have the coupon in it. I guess they are not doing the discount any more. The Swan has a great restaurant in it called Guilivers. It was buffet the night we went and the them of the buffet was pasta. Goofy and Pluto also showed up. The Dolphin/Swan was also good as far as transportation goes. The boats get you to MGM and Epcot, and the bus gets you everywhere else. We didn't have time issues with the transporation. Hope this helps.

I really liked Coronado Springs, and their pool is really awesome. They have a waterslide and a pyramid - great for kids. It's a cute theme too.

never stayed at CSR. but just the two of you CBR has always felt very romantic to me and DH even with kids.. but if your going to spend money on the Swan ..why not stay at AKL or the Poly?

PS ..if your my age and can remember necking at the drive-in theater .. the Sci-fi can sure bring back some memories *grin*

lol showing my age just by using the word *necking*... come to think of it ..there is a part about "young lovers" on the screen

I vote for CBR. It has a great island feel and you feel as if you are in the tropics. There is a nice path to walk around the lake and a small beach with hammocks. Wow, I really wish I was there now.

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

Well you are west coasters, if that is south west then Coronado Springs will be a bit like being home. Carribean Beach on the other hand is totally different, they also have a very nice pool and several different boating options on a very nice private lake. (My DD was old enough to pilot her own WaterMouse this year and it was all we could do to get her to do anything else!

The Swan is great ONLY if you can get one of the killer discounts they sometimes offer ( my wife is a teacher so we get a great rate ), then it is like getting a deluxe for the price of a moderate. I do agree that the Disney theming is no where near as strong as at the other resorts, but to me it has a more sophisticated feel to it ( well as much as you can be sophisticated at WDW ).

Do remember that the Swan and the CSR are both convention resorts so you do have business folks floating around. As it will be just the two of you that shouldn't be an issue at all. Of all the resorts the best pool (again in my opinion) is Stormalongbay which is the pool connected to the Yacht and Beach Club, now that's akiller pool, but it is a deluxe resort with the associated price tag.

But ss I always say there are no bad resort choices at WDW.

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

If you want to stay more with the Disney feel I would say either POR or CBR. We did not care for the Coronado Springs Resort AT ALL. But alot of people seem to like it...just personal preference I guess. We loved the POR and we stayed at CBR years ago and liked it.

I am sure you will have a good time whichever you pick

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

We've stayed at CBR our last two visits. Very colorful, tropical, islandy theme. We love it there. It is a very large resort, and there is an internal resort bus if you are not close enough to OPR. The resort is one of the closest to Epcot and MGM too. They also have the largest rooms out of the moderate resorts.

No matter where you choose to stay, you will have a magical time!!

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

Heres my thoughts
1st choice - POR
2nd choice - CBR
3rd choice - CSR

Swan and Dolphin aren't themed enough for me. I agree that if I had a discount I might think about it. One thing going for them is the "heavenly beds" the Sheraton/Weston chain offers.

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

I'm going to assume that the only reason you're considering the Swan is because of some type of discount. With that, based on your time frame and what you'd like to do, I think you should definately do the Swan.

Why?

* - It's walking distance to the so-called '"adult parks": Epcot and MGM
* - you're right on top of the Boardwalk, which has a fairly lively nightlife
* - distance wise, the Epcot hotels, the Dolphin and Swan are the closest you can be to over 50% of all of the restaurants in WDW. Between MGM, Epcot, BW the Epcot resorts and the Dolphin/Swan, there are well over 30 places to eat, some of them quite romantic and upscale

Matt, that's the reason we stayed at the Dolphin. We saved $1,000 for 6 nights at the Dolphin because of the Entertainment Book. I checked Disney resorts at the time, and Disney couldn't beat the deal!

I would definitely choose the Swan. It's got a nice adult, sophisticated feel, and I'd stay there for all the reasons that Matt said.

Re: First WDW Resort Stay help

My wife and I have stayed at the Port Orleans - Riverside 3 times now and have not been disappointed once! It truely is a beautiful resort with the Southern Belle theme and there is a lot to see and do there. I noticed you mentioned Downtown Disney for dinner one night. Well, POR offers a 15 minute boat cruise to Downtown Disney that is really nice and relaxing. It would definitely add to that Romantic Evening dinner you were planning!
