Treehouses

I was just wondering if anyone knew what happened to the treehouses. I always wanted to stay in one, but unfortunately I never did.

Re: Treehouses

They are still there, but are currently closed. We saw them during the boat trip from POR to DTD. They look like they need a lot of renovation. Some had lights on inside and from what we saw, the decor was pretty outdated. There was also a lot of green stuff growing all over the wood decks and steps. I suspect that with all the DVC resorts opening up, people have lost interest in them.

Re: Treehouses

The treehouses are still there, they were not torn down with the townhouses and the other parts of the Disney Institute. There has not yet been an official decision about them. I am hoping once Saratoga Springs is done that they will fix them up and bring them out of the 80's, and that they will be part of SS, but only available for cash rather than for DVC points.

Re: Treehouses

We saw alot of trees down in that area last weekend. And flooding too. The town houses that are between the tree houses and SS had lots of trees leaning on the buildings. You do get a good view from the boat that goes from POR to DTD

Re: Treehouses

We asked someone last year, who said that they were being used as offices and storage units during the construction of Saratoga Springs. I was always kind of intrigued by them. Fixed up, I think it would be kind of cool to stay in one.

Re: Treehouses

Actually, I have read several times recently that they're planning on renovating the treehouses. It's good news to me, as I've always wanted to stay in one.

Re: Treehouses

The treehouses are located at the former Dinsey Institute which no longer exists. I don't think you can drive or take a bus to them anymore. The best chance to see them is on the free boat ride from DTD to POR or POFQ. The boats get within 15 to 20 feet from the houses and you get a good view of them and the golf course.

Re: Treehouses

We were lucky enough to stay in them for a free upgrade when we stayed at the Disney Institute. They were cool, I will need to dig out some pics to post. They were fairly modernized, great kitchen. There was actually a fake tree going through the middle of the home. The best room was down stairs, the bed also had a built in jungle gym for the kids! And best of all our view, we watched the boats go back and for, and the passengers would all waive to my verry little Ds (back then).

It was a very remote feeling staying at these treehomes! but wonderful.
