Icon10 Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

OK. Everyone take a deep breath a count to 10.

Isn't is funny how Disney is such an important thing to so many of us that's it's so easy to get charged up?

For anyone who has joined DisneyCentral recently, or who is reading some of our posts for the first time: Welcome! This is, IMHO, the BEST source of Disney information on the web.

And yet, much like Disney, none of us are perfect.

So, in case any of you are in doubt, Disney is, in fact, the most magical place on earth. Some of the fondest memories of my life are memories of events that happened in the World.

But, Disney isn't perfect. One of the many things that I love about this site is how open and honest everyone is. And sometimes, openess and honesty can be a bit tiresome and even painful.

So, take the good with the bad and always remember one curious fact about human nature: people are much more likely to report a bad experience than a good one. I saw a statistic a few years back where I think it was on average, people will tell 7 people about a bad experience and only 3 people about a good one.

In summary, tell us your bad experiences so that we can learn from them. And tell us your good experiences so that we might enjoy them with you, at least vicariously.

I LOVE DisneyCentral!

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

Ok, I'll play! These are all from our trip last December.

Bad experiences:

--waiting 50 minutes to finally be seated at both Hollywood and Vine and CRT, and that was WITH PS's!!

--having the concierge CM at the Grand Floridian make our park hoppers, that were put on our room keys, for the WRONG DATES, and having to spend an hour at the gate on our cell phones trying to work it out and explaining to a crying 2 year old that she just needed to wait a few more minutes to see Mickey and Minnie

Good experiences:

--getting our meals served really, really quickly at nearly every sit-down restaurant we went to in the parks (great when you have an impatient 2 year old!)

--the Disney Princesses holding, playing with, and keeping my daughter occupied the ENTIRE 20 minutes while we waited in line to meet Cinderella at CRT (boy did we get some envious stares!! Thanks Mary Poppins, Alice, Belle, and Wendy! )

BTW, great thread, Matt!

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

Well the only truly "bad" experince (due to WDW... not child meltdown or weather) was when we ate at the CB at Ohana. The characters forgot us. Chip & Dale came by us, but Mickey and Goofy never even came near us. My DS took it personaly, he thought they did not want to talk to him. We checked with our server and she said they would be around again, but after about an hour of waiting my DD who wasn't even 2 yet was tired and becoming cranky. I asked about our pictures but they could not find them. It was a total waste of a CB. I ended up calling to complain later and the person I spoke with told me I should have spoken with the manager while I was there, and there was nothing she could do other then make a note to the dining mgr. gerrrr. Now that is the worst thing that has ever bugged me. Having said that we have been to WDW too many times to count including day trips. We have had so many wonderfull things go on. From comp upgrades to a Goofy pin a CM gave my DS that he treasures. The CM at the Sci-Fi who had a cook come over and "ticket" my kids for "bad driving"... they are still tellig everyone about it, lol. I know I have even more magic that has gone on, I could be here all day.

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

The only really "bad" experience I have ever had at Disney (that was not my own fault for not thouroughly planning things) was a few years ago when my parents and I went to eat at Planet Hollywood at DTD. The wait was almost unbearbale and just when we thought our wait was up, they just moved us to another area to wait, When we finally got a table, it was just so hectic everywhere that my dad kept saying he felt like he was eating at Grand Central Station. The food was nothing spectacular and not really worth the money we paid. We have never gone back since, but no real worries since there are so many other great restaurants in WDW to try!!

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

I had a few bad experiences at WDW, but they could have happened anywhere. The good totally outweighs the bad.

1) bad CM experience at the Mara...not even going there. It's was over before it started and not worth reliving/.

2) Princess Storybook breakfast ws a disaster for me and my DD...never will go again.

3) three ugly scences with other guests where I coudnt muster the patience to ignore their ignorance and lost my temper completely.

5 bad experieces in 6 trips and 1,000 + good ones. The bad ones were enough to mess up a trip and again, could have happened anywhere...no biggie.

Good the Bad and the Ugly...
The Bad & Ugly-Our first trip as a family-DS then 10 months old got his finger pinched in the bathroom door in our toom at the ASM. he and I missed the character breakfast since we were at the hospital. He got 4 stitches (lot's for a baby, and hearly lost the top of his finger).

The Good-the next day we arrived back in our room where a Sorcerer Mickey and Autographed photo of Mickey was waiting for us.

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

I ate lunch next to two foreign travlers at H&V, and they decided it was time to tweeze there mustaches...they were women.

I really can't think of any really bad experiences, except in the Towere of Terror, we got yelled at because we had one to many people for the child swap. She was a manager - not in TOT wardrobe and then she let us in - BTW this was right before the library entrance, and we had the right amount of people too!

Off subject - what is the 'right' amount of ppl for a babyswap?

Bad: I've only had one "bad" experience, and it wasn't that bad. We just had a snooty server at the Maya Grill. She sorta made us feel like we weren't supposed to be there. THe majority of my party just ordered desserts, because we had already eaten...maybe that's why, I don't know. But the morning crew was so great the next few mornings at breakfast, so it didn't matter :c)

I have only been to WDW once before but many times to DL and have never once had a bad or and ugly experience. Mine were all good. Cross my fingers for the trip coming up.

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

I can't think of any bad, except for a few cases of tourist rudeness.

GREAT--Pulling into TTC last December and asking the CM if he could cash a traveler's cheque for parking. Instead, he smiled and told us to go on in and park for free!

I think it may change from attraction to attraction, but typically, it is the pass holder and two guests. It also is different at AK, since this park is the newest, many attraction have a waiting area in the front of the line. But this could be a whole other thread....
Have a great night!!!

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

Ok.....ive only had one bad experience....and it was completly my own fault but i'll share it anyways....

1. Two weeks after my 21st birthday I went to Pleasure Island for the first time....(haha you can already tell how this story is going to go...) also took with me my best friend stacy....drank a little too many "happy" beverages and had to skip the parks the next day because of it......

The GOOD:

1. On the way back from Pleasure Island at 2 a.m. on the bus (pre-not feeling so hot) the entire bus broke out in our own rendition of "You've lost that loving feeling." The bus driver even joined in on the microphone thingy.

2. The DBF's first trip to disney that he could remember....we go to check in at AS Mo...there were not king size rooms available...i was terribly upset bc i wanted this to be PERFECT for Dave....The CM (also named dave but from pennsylvania..i still love him to this day) got on the phone to the head of room assigning or something to see what he could do for us. Turned out the head of room assingning guy was from the same town we were in South Carolina and gave us the "Flo-Town upgrade" (The CM actually said it this way...we live in Florence, SC..some people call it Flo-Town) we got a preferred room right smack in front of the pool and 2 seconds away from the food court/buses....the trip couldnt have been more perfect......i owe it all the CM's

Re: Disney: The Good and The Bad (and the Ugly?)

I've had two troubling experences connected with Disney, the first, I booked a trip to Disney in Nov 03 through Disney travel. They changed our flight and never notified us, I didn't find out until I received the tickets. The kicker was that they sent me an itinertary with the orginal flight on it and that was what I was working off of to plan things. The second had to do with another guest, this past Jan we were waiting for the Wishes show on the train station and a young couple pulled one of the small cocktail tables to the rail and sat on it. A Disney employee approached them and asked them (nicely) to not sit on the table. They both became angry and began a abuse this poor woman asking her if was the owner and saying they wanted her name because they weren't going to be treated like that by her. It went on for a while at one point the boy (thats what he was acting like) said can I stand, and the employee said yes sir you can. At this point the idoit tried to stand on the table. After a minute or so of this I and several onlookers got involved and told the kid to calm down and the problem ended. I was emabrassed by the whole thing.

That was the underground passage I was trying to squeeze through. I use the ID "caver_jeffery" for a reason. We discussed it in another thread. Here's the link:
