Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
I would go with the Poly, because it is right on the monorail which gives you instant access to MK, and almost instant access to Epcot. Also, a lot of the rooms at the Poly have undergone a rehab, so you get a nearly new room for your money.
As far as planning yourself v. a travel agent that is up to you. If you enjoy booking it yourself, it is very easy. If you don't want to go through all the trouble, then call Mouseketrips. They are great, and they also sponsor DC!! I have never heard a bad review about them. Mouseketrips is run by our very own Mickey. Visit www.mouseketrips.com and you can book through their website, or you can call them up on Monday.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
I would go with the Boardwalk. It's central location is great, and it has numerous dining options which are amazing. The Boardwalk has such a great theme and is minutes away from Epcot and MGM.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
I say Boardwalk, Cuz that's where I willbe in a very short time. Location is everything so you have to dicide where you want to spend your time. I like being in the middle of things so BWI is my choice. Using a travel agent can go either way. I used one but could have done it myself.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
That's tough. I've never stayed at either, but have visited. I think alot is atmosphere. I like the atmosphere of both-soory I guess that I am not much help. I like Poly since you can just jump on the monorail.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
Do you have small children? If so and you plan to spend a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom then the Poly is perfect. Adults and teens only, looking for lots of dining options and planning to spend a good deal of time at EPCOT or MGM, then the Boardwalk is the hot spot.
Well that's my opinion anyhow! -harry

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
We loved the Poly when DH and I went alone. It was romantic and fun. Transportation was great as was the staff. We have never been to BW but I KNOW we will be back to the Poly someday

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
Both resorts are on my future stay list. Your choice comes down to location and what you plan to do. If you plan to do more on the monorail loop, then the Poly. If being between Epcot and MGM, plus the boardwalk area's closeness and density of dining/entertainment/shopping is what you want, then Boardwalk is the choice. I know, that doesn't help. My advice, flip a coin and stay at the other one next time.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
I haven't stayed at either but I sure felt like I was in an airport lounge at the Polynesian right outside of Ohana. It was not inviting at all. We stayed at the POR last week and it was as centrally located as we needed. No bus or boat ride was longer than 15 minutes to any of our destinations.
The Boardwalk looks soooo nice. I would go with that.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
Another vote for the Boardwalk! I plan to make a solo trip in mid May and would like to see if I could rent DVC points to stay at the Boardwalk villas. Since weekend points are almost twice as much as weekday, I would probably use an AP code to stay at a moderate on the weekend then stay at a Boardwalk villa Sun-Thurs. My understanding is that you can rent DVC points for about the same price as a moderate (for Sun-Thurs). That's my tentaive plan anyway. I love the central location of the Boardwalk and being able to either walk or take a boat to both Epcot and MGM. Having all those dining options within walking distance is great too.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
I would stay at the Poly. I always have such a good time there. For some reason it seems so much more relaxing than some of the other resorts. Maybe the atmosphere. I do however love to enjoy the boardwalk's nightlife.

Re: Poly or Boardwalk?
I vote for the Poly, we will be there in 4 days and I wouldn't stay at another resort. We have had a wonderful, magical experience at the Poly. Why change a good thing. But I really think either of these will give you the disney experience.
