Back from Disney

We just returned from our week at Disney World. We stayed at the Grand Floridian in the main building - Royal Palm Concierge. We had a perfect view of the evening fireworks from our balcony (room 4206). We liked the room - although I don't think the extra price for it being a "honeymoon suite" is worth it - it's the same as the other rooms except for the whirlpool tub and the four-poster bed....unfortunately it was the only room available for the week after Thanksgiving. Anyway, we loved the Royal Palm concierge at GF. We've stayed at the Beach Club concierge and the Wilderness Lodge concierge, and feel that the GF concierge far exceeds the other two because of the wide variety of food that they put out. I know people have complained that it's not all that kid friendly of food or that it's too fancy, but we don't have kids and we loved it. We typically will eat out at one of their fine dining restaurants at least 3 times per stay, but we didn't eat out at all for dinner on this trip because we were able to graze enough to satisfy us for the evening (we weren't pigs about eating a ton of food, they just have a large enough variety at dinner time so we sampled one (or two) of each item. The desserts were similar to the other resorts, but I think we had a few more options than my sister's resort (she was at the Boardwalk concierge). We'll definately do the Royal Palm concierge on our next trip. On one of the days, we came back early afternoon and there was furniture in the hallway and carpet stacked up. They were redoing the carpeting in the two rooms surrounding us. Since we were resting in our room that afternoon (before going out to the Very Merry Christmas party), it was a bit annoying to hear the banging of the carpet being laid. I called the manager and asked "if I could get an adjustment on our room for that day in consideration for the consutruction", they gave us 50% off of our room for that day....we were then hoping that they'd be installing carpet for the rest of the stay!! We also did the Segway Tour this trip....we loved it...wish it would have lasted all day!! It's always sad to leave there, and we are already looking forward to our next visit. The only downside to the room (and it wasn't really that bad) was that it was on the 2nd floor of the concierge level. The only way to get to it from the main area of the building was to go up to the 3rd floor and then walk down to the end of the hall to the elevator that goes to the 2nd floor (since there are shops on the 2nd floor, the hallways don't go through so you have to go up and around). It did make it very quiet since you don't have through traffic!

It sounds like you had a wonderful time! Reading your trip report may be the closest I ever get to staying at GF - Thanks for letting me pretend I was there as well!

Re: Back from Disney

Sounds wonderful. We stayed at GF when DD was 12...like 7 years ago. It was wonderful! Wish they'd build DVC villas at GF!

Re: Back from Disney

Sounds great. When I stayed at GF I had parents and kids screaming at each other the whole time in the room next door (we all know how fabulous the Disney insulation is). Unfortunately I didn't complain until the morning the "neighbors" were checking out and could have saved myself a lot of headache.

I hear that the concierge at GF is loud too because of the acoustics in the lobby. Did you find this to be true?
