Looking for CBR advice
4 1/2 yr old DS and I are heading to WDW in 11 days and will be staying at CBR for the first time. Any advice on which "island" to stay at would be much appreciated.
Thanx!

Re: Looking for CBR advice
Hi,
We were there in October and stayed in Trinidad North Building 32 (It has the fewest buildings of all the "villages" and is very close to OPR - the TownCentre). We absolutely loved it. The location was great, as we had only a 2 minute walk to OPR and less than a minute to the bus stop. Some reviews have said that it is a noisier area of the resort, although that was not our experience, it was quiet and the small pool was never crowded, when the large resort pool by OPR often was crowded. I think it depends upon what you want. If you will be spending any time at all going to the food court at OPR, I would suggest Martinique, Trinidad North, Aruba, or Jamaica. If you want to be further away from the action I would suggest Trinidad South. Although I have never stayed at Barbados, I do not think I would want to, as it is close to the resort entrance and may get a lot of traffic noise (just MHO). Hope this information is helpful

Our favorite is Jamacia :) We loved the trips across the bridges ..the playground is in the center, between the 2 bridges and there is that lovely area with paths that wind around.

Here is some info on CBR (my favorite)
http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_cbr.htm Take a look at the map. You may wish to note that the buildings closer to Old Port Royale (the food court), cost a little more than those farther away. This may weigh into your decision. I prefer the buildings on the other side of the two bridges (Aruba and Jamaica are nice.) Some prefer Martinique because it is close. Please note that water-view, garden view or standard view are the locations of a room within a single building. That is not the cost to which I refer. There is an additional cost not listed on that URL (as far as I could tell), for being close to the food court of OPR. I am told this cost is very slight - perhaps a dollar or two per day- but check on it. With respect to water-view, garden view or standard view, I have had all three and I found the water view was too close to the swimming pool and it was noisy. I am always happy with either a garden view (facing the gardens between the buildings) or standard view (facing the parking lot). Water view costs the most. Garden view is medium cost. Standard view is the least expensive. I feel you get a more isolated feeling with the garden view. Last edited by CaribBeachNut; 12-06-2004 at 03:59 PM. |

Re: Looking for CBR advice
We were just there in October. I don't know if you'll be using WDW transportation or not, but if so be aware that the buses start to pick up near Old Port Royale and then make a circle around the resort to other stops before heading to their destination.
We found staying near OPR was nice for a short walk to morning coffee (get the mugs to use for your stay to save on coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and soft drinks), and it was nice to be some of the first people on the bus in the morning with our son instead of having to be one of the last to cram on and end up standing, or have to wait because there's no room at all. Re: Looking for CBR advice
BTW, we did not pay more for our location. We got the same deal regardless. To the best of my knowledge you only pay more if you ***request*** a water view room, however you may get one anyway.
Something else to keep in mind-- there are NO ELEVATORS at CBR. Looking back, we would have preferred a first floor room. Lugging the boy and all his accessories up and down stairs didn't seem like a hassle at first, but it got old fast. Paul

Re: Looking for CBR advice
We stayed in North Trinidad, which was close to the food court/main pool. Martinique is also very close. The bus stop was close and one of the first few stops. We never had to wait long for a bus at all.

Re: Looking for CBR advice
We stayed in Jamaica, and we loved it!!! And one of the best parts was that, since we were there when the kids were too small to stay up for fireworks evry night, we could stand in the parking lot right outside our building and see the fireworks -- while wearing flannel pajama pants and sipping a glass of wine!

We too love Jamaica! The Fireworks outside the window was great. We saw most of them right from our rooms window. One tree to block some of it but not much. We had a parking lot view room. We are going back to CBR in October and I CAN'T WAIT!! |

Re: Looking for CBR advice
We too stayed in Jamaica this past May and it was the best stay we ever had. We also stayed in Trinidad S in 1999. That was very far removed and you waited forever for the buses.
Jamaica was only about a 5-10 minute walk to OPR. We stayed in Bldg. 41 which was less than a minute walk to the bus, although we used our rental car most of the time. The pool was right around the corner and wasn't crowded like the main pool at OPR. Don't forget that there is an internal bus that you can use too. Lots of fun on the beaches, playgrounds and island at this resort.

Re: Looking for CBR advice
We have always enjoyed Martinique. It is the closest non-smoking island to the food court. Convenent for refilling mugs and a quick snack.
Now if seclusion is in the gameplan, ignore my post!! |

Re: Looking for CBR advice
Sometimes just before the Epcot fireworks, we go to OPR and get a pizza and sit outside at one of the tables, eating the pizza and watching the fireworks! The kids call it one of our WDW traditions.
