All-star vs. pop century
Okay, now that I've spent oodles of hours in the last oodles of weeks researching via every venue I can find, I've finally come to the conclusion that on-site is our best choice for our first visit to WDW as a family (DH, 8-yr-old DS, and self). Now I need everyone's input on the advantages/disadvantages of the All-Star resorts vs. Pop Century. Location, pools, restaurants, etc. Any input is greatly appreciated! (Going the week after Easter, if that makes a difference.)

Re: All-star vs. pop century
PC was built after the AS's, and in the building of PC they made changes to the design. They listened to the mutitudes of complaints, and made those changes. Things that they improved is the bus loading area, heigth of nightstand (it is the same height as the bed, so people hit their head), shampoo setup (PC has it in bottles, AS's have it in big dispenser). The changes are minor. I personally am a PC fan, so I would say go for PC simply because it is newer, and some of the minor design flaws have been fixed.

Re: All-star vs. pop century
I have never been to PC, but agree that because it is newer it will probably be a tad nicer. I do think the location of the AS is better though. I plan on trying PC next trip.

Re: All-star vs. pop century
Pop, Pop, Pop!
OK, I've never been to the All stars but the Pop does not share a bus route and the all stars do. That was a big big reason for me. I would hate to have a bus come up and it already be half full. Pop was fun, nice, clean. To me since we did everthing on site and rode the buses the location was irrelevant to me.

Re: All-star vs. pop century
I'm staying at Pop for the first time this weekend..i wanted to stay at ASmo since thats where we've stayed every other time we've been to disney but they were booked up--and i have to say that now a few months later im glad that we switched....ive heard all the positive that everyone has already stated above...plus some others...i think that PC is located near Epcot and MGM while All Stars are located near Animal Kingdom...it seems like PC is further away bc it's not far from the entrance to the world...but i believe its closer to the parks if im not mistaken...AS's are just set further in the "world"

Re: All-star vs. pop century
Don't get me wrong, the All-Stars are good, but I would rather stay at PC because at PC I will use the buses and at All-Stars I won't. Also,at All-Stars,the layout is such that if you don't have a preferred room, you will need to use your car(if you have one)to get to the food court. At PC,each building is much closer to the food court/check-in area than at the All-Stars. That said,I will stay at the All-Stars if they are the only resort that will get me the AP or Fla. res. discount, like I did this past Thanksgiving.

Re: All-star vs. pop century
Just got back from the Pop Century (yesterday!) and I have stayed there as well as at the all star music (3 times). I recommend the PC because all of the rooms seemt o be in colse proximity to everything. On maps it looks far, but we were in the 70's by the big wheel (and close to the paking lot) and it was only a few minutes to the main building. The bus set up was nice, no shared routes, the set up for the food court is nice. It kind of has 4 distinct eating areas, the downfall is that it is included directly with the shopping area, so you want to shop and eat at the same time. The pools are nice and the rooms are nice, I'd like to stay at the All-star movies just for the boys, but maybe next time. The resorts are close. It very close to MGM and EPCOT if you drive or bus, DTD is colse by car too. We drove a lot since parking is free at the parks for hotel guests. Chrissa (or Christa) is the girl in ht epark info-mercials. Everytime you turn on the tv it defaluts to channel 19 (I think) and it's her taking about the top 10 attractions.

Re: All-star vs. pop century
The All Stars Resorts are usually the resorts where most of the youth groups that are competing at Wide World of Sports usually stay. We were at the ASMo during the cheerleading championships. And while these young ladies undoubtely had chaperones, I personally never saw them. The groups were always loud, and usually up all night long. One group of girls got so excited about something in the gift shop that they practically ran over my DD, at the time she was only 4. I have read somewhere that PC does not have check in possibilities for big groups... therefore, groups will never be staying there as a group. After my experience at ASMo, we always try for PC first, just to avoid the crowds. We stayed at PC just 3 months after it opened and really enjoyed it. We are heading back in Jan 05.

Re: All-star vs. pop century
PC is always cheaper!!!!
Yes, that's right. Even if AS & PC have the same price listed, PC is still cheaper. WDW covers two seperate counties. The tax rate for AS & AKL resorts is higher than the tax rate for the other resorts. Granted it's only a couple bucks, but it's still cheaper.
