Ft. Wilderness Cabins

Has anyone stayed in these? I was considering this if I can get an AP discount for our August trip. We have 5 in our family so we probably do POR with the trundle bed. We can't afford a deluxe and I heard that the cabins sleep 6 and are sometimes discounted. My main concern is how far out in the wilderness are they??? And how is the bus transportation?? Any tips on snagging a discount?

I love Ft. Wilderness Cabins. Not because I used to work there : They are for up to 6 people . If you need anymore info let me know. The cabins are not too far in the wilderness and you can request one close to the bus stop. The buses are pretty fast there too.

I stayed there when I was really little. I remember it being nice, and really cool. Mousekeeping still amanages to visit every cabin to do a little cleaning daily.

Re: Ft. Wilderness Cabins

Keep in mind they just changed them a few years back, we stayed last year and always love them. Have even more fun, rent a golf cart for your stay. It comes in handy to go to the bus stops and shop!I will post some pics in a few minutes...

Here are some pics to look at - Keep in mind the one with the sofa, the wall next to it pulls down from the wall. That plus the full size and bunks and the back holda good family.

Re: Ft. Wilderness Cabins

My in-laws are staying in the cabins as I type this. They are very cool!!! Its so peaceful at the Fort. They arnt very far at all from the many bus stops, and my brother in-law says the bus transportation has been excellent, and he has constantly traveled all over property this week.

Re: Ft. Wilderness Cabins

Hey Fa (or whoever can help)...I am planning a trip in my mind (probably several years in the future) and wondering what the max # of people is for the Ft. Wilderness cabins?
There would be my 2 parents, my little sister, me & DH...that makes 6. I figure 6 fits comfortably right?

But now there's baby on the way, which would make 7. Are 7 allowed?

I am staying at the cabin in July and I have received lots of information about it and it sounds great. Go to www.allearsnet.com to get some information on the cabins.

Re: Ft. Wilderness Cabins

We love the Fort Wilderness cabins! There are 5 in our family, none of whom are younger than 25, and 2 of them are taller than 6 feet. We're able to be very comfortable in the cabins. DH & I get the murphy bed in the front, and the "kids" get the back bedroom with the bunks and a double bed. Since the murphy bed pulls down from the wall in the livingroom, you get a living space during the day, plus you have a deck with a picnic table which with the Florida weather, acts very nicely as another room (DSs planning to take lounge chairs to sleep out there this time). I'm not sure what the official position about a baby being #7 in the cabins is so you'll probably have to ask (sorry!). While it would be nice to have a privacy screen for the livingroom at night, it really didn't bother us (Midnight snackers come close to your head when they raid the fridge). The full kitchen, of course, is a big plus and it's lovely to have someone else come in & do the dishes. Since we're on vacation, we don't care about the speed of the transportation, but we never had to wait terribly long for a bus or a boat. You also have the option of skipping the TTC by going to another resort (pick the emptiest bus) and then taking a Homes & Cabins bus. I don't know that it saved any time, but we got a fun tour of the area.
The FW area itself is very nice and you'll get to see some little critters even though it isn't a deserted area...Think suburban cul-de-sacs. The cabins are fairly close to each other but you feel like you have more room than at a hotel type resort. It's wonderful to be able to retreat to it as a break during the day. The pools are only pools, but they're wet, and there's a beach area as well as a petting zoo, some stores, a campfire and a tavern with a porch. When we decided on our 5th "This Is Our Last Trip to WDW" trip for this coming year, I put the option of other resorts or a condo up or discussion, and it was IMMEDIATELY vetoed. The cabins won again, hands down no thought!

Hey dznygrl, 6 would be comfortable and depending on how old the baby will be when you go is if it will be allowed. IF the baby is going to be under 2 then yeah but around 3 then I would really think about getting 2 cabins, or a tent outside just for the kids JK

Thanks Fa! I'm not sure how soon it would happen, so there's no telling how old baby will be...but I was hoping within the next 2 years or so. It might be better to get 2 cabins anyway, so my sis can stay with us (she'll be around 15 then--gettin' too cool to stay with her PARENTS when she goes to WDW! LOL)

Ah well, if she is going to be that age, then 2 cabins is a must.

That's what I thot. If we shared a cabin, she'd have to sleep in the same room as her parents.... Poor girl! LOL
