Need Room Suggestions for AKL Savannah Room

We are going to be at AKL from 2/16-22/05. We made reservations for the Savannah view room. I have heard really nice things about these rooms and some not so great. Although, we have stayed at the AKL before, this is going to be our first time staying in one of the Savannah rooms. I wanted this vacation to be special because my dh is currently deployed with his ship, so far, has missed birthdays and Thanksgiving, as well as, missing Christmas, New Years and our Anniversary. I am going to fax our room request a few days before we leave. But, we would really like to get a room that has a great view of a lot of the animals in the savannah. Our son is killing over with excitement about this vacation because we are going to have savannah room. I just don't want my "boys" to be disappointed and would love to get room suggestions from those of you that has stayed in a Savannah room at the AKL.

I stayed there last January and had a Savannah room in the Zebra trail. You have a good amount of animals and an excellent view from that Savannah. Try requesting one of those.

Re: Need Room Suggestions for AKL Savannah Room

I have stayed at the AKL several times and if I am correct almost 90% of the rooms are savanah views, so just take a chance with the room you get and you will probably have a savanah view. If you don't get one (or one you don't like) then go to the front desk and request a savanah view. If they ask you to pay more for the change, that will be a decision you will have to make. Joe

Re: Need Room Suggestions for AKL Savannah Room

Hi,

I was just at AKL 2 weeks ago. I stayed in room 2561 (I think that was it).. anyway, it was all the way at the back corner of the zebra trail...

Ill warn you it's a looooong walk from the lobby, especially with a 3yo and a 1yo, BUT... it was super quiet and peacefull (except for my girls) and the animal views were awsome. The room was on the fenceline between the back corner of the Uzima savannah and the Arusha savannah..and it seems the animals LOVE the fenceline. loads of giraffes (usually 3 or 4 in each savannah all the time). Kids loved going out the "animal door" to see them. A family of Kola cattle (mom, dad and baby) Zebras on the Arusha side, groups of gazelles running along the fence. It was great staying there.. our hotel room was like another park.

I loved that hotel so much that moving to the Poly was a huge letdown.

One more thing.. the sunrise is very bright from that side...

Good luck and have fun

We already have reservations for a Savannah View Room. I was just wondering which areas/room to request for the best view of the savannah. From what I'm gathering, the best locations would be at Zebra Trails. We aren't hoping for an upgrade because I didn't want to take my chances at not getting the Savannah view, so we decided just to pay extra for the room. So when I fax our room request, I'm going to ask for something at Zebra Trails.

Re: Need Room Suggestions for AKL Savannah Room

AKL is shaped like the letter "C" on its back. Each leg of the "C" (hallway) is a trail, and the 3 savannahs are on each side of the C and in the middle...

The Zebra trail has the Uzima savannah to the outside and the Arusha to the inside, and the Kudu trail has the Sunset savannah to the outside and the Arusha to the inside. (the giraffe and ostrich trails are not savannah views). Floors 2,3, and 4 are standard savannah views and 5 is conierge.

I was all the way at the end of the zebra trail where the Arusha savannah wraps around the back of the Zebra Trail "C" and meets the Uzima savannah, and it was a great location.. Not sure if this is true, but the Bellhop told me that the electronic fences near the front of the Arusha savannah carry a higher charge due to the higher number of visitors and strangers trying to feed the animals, so the animals prefer to stay near the back of the Arusha and along the fencelines..

Re: Need Room Suggestions for AKL Savannah Room

I love it when a newbie posts for his first few times and drops so much info that older members haven't a clue about. Not that I'm such an old hand here. I'm sure I couldn't have offered such an overview of the AKL and offer advice beyond eat at Boma, the coffee's really good.

Re: Need Room Suggestions for AKL Savannah Room

newbie in terms of posting #, but I've been a lurker for years.
and I am at a small advantage having stayed at AKL recently.

If that resort was in a better location, it would be the greatest place on earth.

I agree about the location, and "lurking". Sometimes it's the desire to give and get info that makes you register for the first time.

Re: Need Room Suggestions for AKL Savannah Room

We just got back last Wednesday from AKL-our second stay-and we were in room 5313-for the second time -that's on the concierge level, but I think any Savannah view room will be the same. This particular room is on the Kudu Trail and we could see Wildebeasts, Zebra, Giraffe, Kudu and others from our balcony. If you stepped out our door and looked out the big window you could see the Anetole Cattle, some new Warthogs and Antelope and a bunch of different birds.

This is an awesome hotel and we love the fact that it's a bit out of the way. They offer so many fun activities for the kids everyday that we spent our entire last day just taking my grandson around to the different crafts things...he had a BALL.
