Contemporary - Bad Stay, worth complaint call?

During our recent trip (we have TWO MORE planned this year), we had a poor experience at the Contemporary resort.

So much so that we're considering not staying at a Disney resort again since we're convinced that ONLY the GF and Polynesian have the appropriate accomodations and treatment. We stayed at the Polynesian last time and it was a great time and very nice place - albeit a bit dated.

Has anyone got any form of satisfaction from any of the customer service agents? We were simply given the 800 number for the Contemp resort when we called the customer service line and all we got from Contemp agent was "Write a letter."

Pathetic.

I say, if you are truly disappointed with what happened, DON'T LET IT GO. The Disney people really need to know, and even though you may hit your head against a brick wall a few times, eventually you will get through to the right person. I haven't had a personal experience with a complaint, but I know when I've had to call Disney and get something worked out, I EVENTUALLY got to someone who cared, and they took VERY good care of me.

I would write a letter. I think that gets better results. I sent an email once and did a call from a CM who said they took all suggestions and complaints seriously. It take a couple of months to hear from them though.

I would do everything in my power to get the problem fixed. I would hope that you don't allow one bad stay to keep you off-site forever. There are plenty of other hotels at WDW that have great service.

I agree that a letter would initiate action better than a call. May I ask what happened that was so awful? I had 2 nice stays there this year, but I've read lots of negative experiences from everyone else. What happened?

We were at the Contemporary from 10/19 through 10/24 this year and had a very good experience. Our biggest glitch was at the California Grill, and an inattentive CM/maitre 'd (sp?). I've seen numerous bad reviews as well, but I just didn't see it. Even the rooms are in the middle of a refurbishment program. For you, write snail mail and call. I complained loud enough at Universal that I eventually got several nights worth of comp'ed rooms.

You know, you should write a letter.
But if there were problems with the room or the service, the rule in the business of innkeeping is this: Problems with the room/service should be handled in the first 20 minutes of your taking possession of the room.
After that it will be treated as if you had brought a bug to your meal, ate more than half of your meal and then planted the bug in order not to pay for what you truly enjoyed.
In other words, they won't be able to do anything other than apologize for what went wrong, if you are already back home and are only now complaining.
I hope this makes sense.

I would write a letter, but not let one bad trip force me off-site forever. The Beach club and boardwalk are also deluxes that you can try.

I of course must inquire as to what exactly went wrong with your stay that you are so turned off of Disney Resorts. Letters to WDW are a very strong way of getting your problems across and all of the properties take them very seriously. I'm sure the General Manager of the Contemporary or the Guest Service Manager of the appropriate department/s would like to know of the situation as well. I ask that you not take the Contemporary out of your future plans because it truly is a wonderful resort and I'm sure that you may have just had that once in a blue moon horrible experience. Please let me know what was wrong and make sure you write to the guest communications department.

I can tell you first hand that advising the Management of an issue will get results. We stayed last year at POFQ and had several minor issues that needed attention (errors in rooms, miscalculations in billing, someone in the room we were supposed to be checking into*). After getting settled in We took our concerns up with the Manager on duty the next morning and they were very apologetic and corrected the issues right away; they even gave us a meal at any restaurant on property and comp'ed it.
*As a side note: Don't ever decide to hang out in the room your buddy checked out of, Disney Security will come and cart you away :)

Definately call or write to complain. We had a bad stay at the Polynesian, and we were given 10% off the next time we stay there. We get more off with AP discounts, but it's the gesture that matters. And maybe someday they will discontinue AP rates (god forbid!) and that 10% off will look pretty good.

I'm curious about what your problem at the Contemporary was. I've stayed there four times (2 wing, 2 tower) and never had any problems. In fact, it is my favourite resort.

I would definitely write to Disney management. We had a HORRENDOUS stay at Wilderness Lodge this past March and as soon as we got home I wrote a letter detailing every single issue that we had during our stay...it ended up being 3 pages long but was very well written with no animosity directed towards anyone. We were lucky enough to get a WONDERFUL guest relations person to work with and she went out of her way to accommodate us. She went so far as to send an autographed Buzz photo to my grandson...for starters. We ended up being comped one night during our December trip at AKL/Concierge with free one day hopper passes for all 3 of us.

Disney definitely wants to hear the good and bad...and it was our experience that they went above and beyond to make ammends. I'm not saying that everyone gets such great satisfaction...I just saying that if you don't initiate the process Disney will never know about it, or have the opportunity to correct it.

I would write a letter. Had a bad expereince at the Poly years ago and I recieved a timely response and was comped a night's stay. The letter was mostly positive but detailed as to my complaint. The response I recieved was gracious and positive.
