Best Hotel for a Solo Trip?

I'm so excited. I leave in twelve days for WDW with my adult son and 8 y/o GD. We're doing a split trip, staying at WL and AKL. Can't wait, but I'm also already planning my first ever solo trip for mid-May. Which do you consider the best hotel for a solo trip? I'm also going back in late Sept or Oct and taking my other son and D-I-L and would like to do another solo trip for early Dec. I bought an AP and feel I might as well get my money's worth out of it. My solo trips will probably need to be semi-budget (value or moderate) preferably split stay since I would like to stay at different hotels each time. Any suggestions for the solo trips would be greatly appreciated. Please give your reasons also.

Well since it is just going to be you, why waste the money on having the extra space in your room, unless you want the features of staying at a Moderate(hot tub, sit down resturaunt at your resort). As far as Values Resorts go I would suggest Pop Century or All Star Movies. For a Moderate, any of them really are good. Personally I like POFQ, because of its smaller size, but it tends to be a couples resort (lol we are staying there on our upcomming trip, so its not one of those couples only resorts). I would say that you can't go wrong with any of the moderates, except CSR. CSR is a beautiful resort, but it is a convention resort.

Re: Best Hotel for a Solo Trip?

Of course it goes without saying that any WDW hotel would fit the bill but if it were me I would stay at one of the more expensive resorts since the budget is for one person. Personally I would stay at the Grand Floridian but that's just me.

That's what I was going to suggest. GF is one of the most expensive and its more relaxed. It's def. a solo or couple resort.

I think I'd have to go with Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans (FQ or RS). I might even be leaning towards POFQ. I find the resort to be smallish and cozy. Plus, there is a boat to Downtown Disney in addition to the busses that go everywhere else. And it's very close to Riverside if you want a change of scenery.

Re: Best Hotel for a Solo Trip?

I would stay at PC because the room is certainly big enough for one person. Also, with AP rates, you will be able to stay extra days. When you can stay 3 days at PC for the price of one night at the Poly,I'd much rather do that!!

Re: Best Hotel for a Solo Trip?

Having had a few nice stays at each level of hotel in 2004, I think I might be able to help you on this one. (I also made use of my AP).
I had two solo stays this past year. Both at Pop Century. And I must say I heartily enjoyed them. The buildings feel a little safer, since they are all closer and facing each other, and I agree about the rates - both times I received the unbelievable rate of $49 a night. Hard to pass up, and definitely worth it. If they give you a room on a higher floor, it will be away from the noise, and you will feel plenty relaxed. The rooms are big enough, and will be where I will return on solo trips.
During one of my stays, my family met up with me and we went on over to Caribbean Beach, which was wonderful - but to me it was too big for one person. I stayed behind one day lounging on the beach and hammock while they were visiting that other park, and I truly enjoyed my stay there, but at night, when the lights are out, the place doesn't seem as safe (But then again, I'm from a big City. The Disney are becomes the Woods to me at night!).
If I had my choice of where to stay, and didn't need to watch the budget, my personal preference would be Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you are not renting a car and want to be close to the action, there's always the ones on the monorail track, with my experience at CR being much better than those posted here lately. I loved being able to walk (on my own - since no one else wanted to) to and from the parks in and out of 5 minutes. (One (Early Entry)morning I went to the MK park onfoot alone, walked around, rode a bunch of rides, and was back by 9:30- before the rest of the gang had awoken!).

However, at the time of year you're talking about, you might get a great deal at PC, and I would be the first to tell you it's great for solo trips. Great pools. Nice atmosphere. And that relaxing feeling of Disney magic.
