AKL room request

Pete and I have a savannah room booked (and king bed requested...on our 4th trip since the wedding...NEVER get that blasted king bed) but which section of the resort should I request next week? And should I call and ask to speak to the room assigner or what? I seriously dropped the ball on this one in Sept. when I should have contacted someone at the Poly in advance.

P.S. Dana I don't have a DC pin Do you think you'd recognize me and Pete if we ran into one another at AKL?

Re: AKL room request

For the most part the WDW Operator will not connect you to the room assigner. My suggestion if at all possible would be to send a fax to (407) 938-4799 which is the fax number for the Animal Kingdom Lodge Back Office. Put the fax to the attention of AKL Rooms Control. In that fax include your king bed request and also wherever you wish to stay! Unfortunately no suggestions on what trail to stay off of, only worked FD there once and I can't really remember.

Jen I know what both you and Pete look like and if I see you, I will definately come up and say hi. If I see Pete alone, I'll say hi and freak him out..lol Here's a pciture of my DD...she'll will more than likely have the DC pin on....please come up and say hello if you see us.

It's a picture of her in her bunk bed from the AKL last trip...sneak peek of a room....not the one you are going to get, but one of them anyway..lol About you requesting a room, you can try faxing a request 3 days prior. I wouldn't suggest calling. I don't even know if AKL takes request via the fax anymore either. Just be sure that it's noted on your reservation that you want the king bed and remind them of the king bed at check-in. As for views, the view from the Zebra trail is awesome and gives you a good varitey of animals. You are going to love this resort. It's so peaceful.

Re: AKL room request

The Zebra trail is a great location. Another thing to consider is staying on the same floor as the lobby, it's just high enough for a great view of the animals and no up and down trips to get to the lobby and bus stops. And it's pretty close to the pool and Boma, just a trip down the elevator to get there.
Have Fun!!

We were on the Zebra trail when we stayed there, and one big disappointment was that there were no giraffes. Unsure why, but the only giraffes we saw were on the safari at AK.

Re: AKL room request

I know when the AKL first opened DH and I stayed on the Zebra trail. Was very nice, but seemed to be a little noisey. Since , then we stayed on the 4th floor, and it was much better, as far as noise goes. But, the walk to the main lobby was a little hike. I still enjoy the Lodge, I think it is just gourgeous!!!! Re: AKL room request

Jenny, we didn't get our king bed either!

We were just there, from 11/29-12/7, and had reserved a deluxe savannah room. We requested a king bed, and to be on the Arusha savannah (DH called the hotel directly 4 days before our trip). Well, when we checked in, they had a king bed for us, but only on one of the "outside" savannahs (I can't remember the name, but if you look at a map of the resort, it's the one in the top left hand corner). Since we really wanted to be on Arusha, we switched rooms. I think our room was 5529. We LOVED it! The hotel and our room were just gorgeous, we saw animals galore, and just had a fabulous time. I cannot WAIT to go back!!!

Re: AKL room request

I don't want to discourage you but...after our fiasco at check-in in Dec I would say don't put any hope in your requests. The best I can suggest is show up at the hotel as early as possible. WHen we showed up at 2 pm, there were no rooms left on the Arusha savannah and the only savannah view rooms left overlooked a "people pen".
Faxing a request or calling will not help you as they give out the rooms first come first served and even if you are assigned exactly what you want, the CM at check-in can still give your room to someone else who checks in before you. (Which they do.)
All of that said, I would suggest something on the fourth floor as you don't get all of the traffic that the third floor does.
Have fun!

Re: AKL room request

The last 2 times we went to WDW we requested King beds at time of reservation. And I was quoted the extra price for the King bed. We didn't get the king and were charged the extra price. Be sure you find out if you were charged for a king room and didn't get one.

Re: AKL room request

The extra charge should only be associated to those rooms at WDW that are guaranteed king beds. Standard ROH guest rooms with a king bed DO NOT have an additional charge. If you booked a king room with an excess charge you should bring that to the attention to the CM checking you in, especially if you did not receive a king bed.
