Which do you prefer, Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter?
Im in the beginning stages of planning our next trip to the world in summer of 2006. We stayed at the ALL Stars on our last trip and Id like to try a moderate resort on this next trip. Which of these 2 do you think would be the best new "home" and any input as to why would be helpfull. The "kids"will be 21 and 18. Thanks in advance.

It all depends on what the kids would want to do. I think for the kids ages that either one should be fine. There are some things that POR has that FQ doesn't have. If you have any doubts try going to Allearsnet.com They have all kinds of info on the resorts, or contact Mickey for more info. If I am not mistaken there was a whole thread on which one everyone preferred.

Re: Which do you prefer, Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter?
I had to make this same decision for my October trip. I wanted to do a moderate and was torn between POR and POFQ. I chose POFQ because it's smaller and more intimate in size. Everything is pretty close to the check-in area. I love the theme of Mardi Gras too. There is only one bus stop at POFQ and there are multiple at POR meaning longer transportation times. Hope this helps.

We've stayed at both, and liked the POFQ better. Like Dana said it's smaller and everything's a shorter walk. Two advantages of th POR, however, it's the only moderate that can handle five per room (fifth is in a trundle so must be small), and it's my understanding POFQ no longer has a sitdown restaurant (correct me if I'm wrong guys). I believe they share pools so you can swim at either and they are both great.

We have not stayed at POFQ. We do however, really like POR. It is largere but designed so that it doesn't feel like a big resort. I think it's the way that it is landscaped.
Either choice is an excellent one. ![]()

No, Cinderbella, you got Boatwright's at POR. I have only stayed at POR and we loved it. But next time I was planning on us staying at POFQ - it looks so nice.

Re: Which do you prefer, Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter?
While I would take either one, DH and I find ourselves more attracted to POFQ. I love the smaller size, the theme, etc.
I think that with older children, they may actually appreciate the French Quarter theme! For some families with younger children, POR is a better choice because the Mardi Gras theme is sometimes lost on (or scares the crud outta) the younger kids. But with the ages in your group, I think I would choose POFQ. Remember, you can always use the amenities at either one! (That includes pools too!) So pick whichever appeals more to you as far as the rooms go. Plus ease of transportation is something to think about... ![]()

Re: Which do you prefer, Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter?
Actually, if you have older, active kids, POR is much better. Far more room to run around in. POFQ is great if you have little ones and are lugging a stroller around. Everything is very central and close together. Even little ones can walk easily. The pool with Triton riding the sea serpent is very cool. We stayed at POFQ when our kids were small and they loved playing in the little "park" which was just outside our door. Most rooms are situated around grassy squares. POR is more rustic, with a "swimmin' hole" themed pool.

Markypooh,
I think that you can see from the mix of answers that either resort is a great choice!! ![]()

Re: Which do you prefer, Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter?
We have never stayed at POFQ, but have stayed at POR several times. At POR we have stayed at both Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou. We loved both. While at POR we have taken the boat to FQ, checked out the pool, shops, counter service and roamed the grounds, but have never been compelled to stay there.

Re: Which do you prefer, Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter?
We haven't stayed at POR but stayed at POFQ this past December. We really LOVED POFQ. It is such a neat themed resort and the kids loved the dragon slide pool. I really like how the resort is small and everything is within a quick walking distance. We were in the furthest bldg, #1, but it was still a very quick walk all the way to the front of the resort for the bus stop.
Speaking of buses, I LOVE the fact that POFQ has their own bus and only ONE bus stop. For some reason we did pick up folks at POR on the Epcot bus and by the third stop I was tired of stopping and just wanted to get to the park already. The first stop at POR was standing room only though b/c all of the POFQ people got the seats at the first stop. I also LOVE the fact that on that Epcot bus that was shared, we got picked up and dropped off first. After a LONG day in the park that is SO important when you have exhausted kids. Several of the people on the bus that were going to POR wished they were at POFQ b/c we got dropped off first..lol It was very very nice to only have a 5 min walk to our room from the bus stop. The rooms were very nice and I loved the decor. DH was also impressed and we loved the double sinks and the curtain that closes off the bathroom from the bed area. It worked out great for whoever got up early to shower and get ready w/o having to wake up the room w/ the lights in the dressing area...the curtain blocked it out perfectly. This was our first Disney property stay and we were very impressed and I doubt we'll ever stay off site at WDW again. Every time I think of booking again I keep going back to POFQ..good value and a very nice resort! I hear many people rave about POR, but I have looked at the pics on allears many times and the theming there just isn't our style at all..it just doesn't pique my interest. What is neat is you can use the POFQ or POR pools and if you want a sit down restaurant, POR's Boatwrights restaurant is a short distance away. I don't think you could go wrong w/ either, but I like to get to places quickly and have my room close by and POFQ fits that bill nicely!
