Icon6 Booked at AKL

Well I booked our first trip. We are staying Nov. 6-11 ;) We'll be driving from KCMO so we are leaving out the Friday before and gonna see some countryside along the way and stop and visit family along the way. Decided to go with 7 day base tickets instead of hoppers and we are buy disney dollars to put away for the trip already. Does anyone know if McDonals GC's are good inside of disneyworld?

Congrats on your booking! You are going to love AKL! It's a beautiful resort. I have stayed there twice now. I am not sure on the McDonald's GC in the parks. I want to say no, becasue it's not an actual Mcdonald's but I ma not certain on this one at all. AGain congrats on your upcoming trip.

Re: Booked at AKL

thanks, how do I get that countdown going on in my signature?? ;)

I went with the standard savanna view and requested the zebra trail since I've talked to some people who said to request that area of the lodge....It just seems so far away :(

Re: Booked at AKL

Here is a link to the countdown instructions for your signature.
http://www.disneycentral.com/forum/s...n+instructions

Standard Savannah is a good choice. The Zebra trail can be hit or miss with closeness. Both times I have stayed in that section and it was a bit of a hike to get to my room. The plus of that is the gorgeous views from these rooms. You won't mind the little walk. One you get familiar with the building, there is all kinds of short cuts you can take to avoid a serious hike.

Where is the AKL on the bus route? Is it packed when they make their rounds over to the resort?

The AKL has their own bus. The bus stop is right down the path from the gift shop to the right of the lobby. Only AKL people use the bus. I have found their bus system to be very efficient and their drivers excellent. The only time you find yourself sharing a bus is when the AK closes for the evening. People from another park will get dropped there before they drop off guests at the AKL. You can expect a bus every 15 to 20 minutes. The drivers are extremely friendly and will tell you which stop is yours while at the theme parks. The only time the busses tend to be packed is at the end of the night when the park is closing. In the mornings, if you get up early, you will practically have the bus to yourself. I can't believe how many people sleep in when there is so much to do..lol I can't sleep from excitement when I am at WDW.

It was great walking out onto the balcony and seeing the giraffee and cattle and this weird looking black bird with "attitude" He was so kewl... DH took a roll of pictures of just this bird...

We have booked AKL for Dec. Did you like this trail? I've booked my room, but haven't requested a trail yet. Don't want to be too far, but want a great view. I know, I probably can't have the best of both worlds.

Re: Booked at AKL

AKL is gorgeous, we loved it. We were in beautiful savanna view on the zebra trail, and had virtually no walk at all. We could not have had a better stay. Congrats on booking your trip.

Re: Booked at AKL

We were really pleased with AKL on our last trip - It is a gorgeous resort. Try to make time to explore the resort and enjoy all the special offerings they have. Also - think about making a PS at Boma's.
I noticed you mentioned that you were driving. You may be glad that you have your car handy as we found the bus system to be the pits! Also, if you can work your schedule to arrive before 3:00 check-in you will probably have a better choice of rooms than if you arrive later in the day.

We had no problem with the bus this Thanksgiving week.

Pluto, Do not stay near the holding pins. The view is terrible. I dont remember the room number something like 54 something. We stayed there for our first time around Turkey Day. The resort is B-E-A-utiful!!! My son LOVED the pool slide. Everyone was very nice.
Have fun!

Re: Booked at AKL

Pluto, it sounds like a great trip. I can't give you any tips on AKL, but if you're going to get one "piece of equipment" for your planning, make sure to get "The Unofficial Guide to WDW." It's all I had to go by on my first WDW vacation, and it was a lifesaver! You can get it at amazon.com or your local bookstore.

Re: Booked at AKL

DH and I have stayed at the AKL many times. It is one of our favorites!!!
Also, love (as others said) the buses. You do not share with any other resorts. That is why we also love the CSR, it also does not share with any other resort. For me, I think that's a good thing.. JOANN
