I Did It - Surprise Surprise

Well, I did switch from Pop Century to Port Orleans Riverside for our trip this May! I'm doing it as a surprise to the family - especially DD and DS, who have "always wanted to stay there." We'll stay there six nites and then move over to Polynesian for the last four nites. I'm still putting together just how I will surprise them, but I saved my "former" confirmation slip from Pop Century. I will hide the "new" POR one and leave my countdown on this website at PC, just in case one of them sees it when I'm on. (They seldom look, so I'm pretty safe writing this). Keith at Mousketrips has been great help in this. Since we are switching resorts during our stay, we'll have to see if they can switch our remaining days on our POR roomkey card/park hopper ticket to our new room keys at Poly. Has anyone done this before? (Keith said if they won't do it, we'll have to continue to use our POR card for use as the park hoppers and our Poly cards to get in and out fo our room there).

Now, we're putting together our PSes. We already have one at Cinderella's Castle for dinner, DD wants to eat at Brown Derby and we're doing Fantasmic and eating at Mama Melrose's. We have made a pact to do at least one thing each day we have never done at WDW. Since we'll be there 10 days, that's a lot of new stuff.

That is AWESOME phayes! What a blast to have such a great surprise planned out for your family!

I bet they will be so thrilled...I know I would!!!

I really like that pact...to do one thing you've never done every day. That's a great idea! I always seem to do only one new thing each trip, and I constantly skip over all the new things I want to try.

Gotta plan better in the future!

Well, it's too bad we won't be able to meet in May for passing off DC the bear...but I'm so excited for you, I'll be there in spirit!

You wont be disappointed! POR is a GREAT resort. I wish I could talk the rest of our group to change over from Pop to there for our March trip. Once you stay at POR you wont want to go back to a value resort.

What a great surprise! We always either do one new thing or eat in a new restaurant each day. It's amazing how many times we've tried something we've always ignored before and found out that we love it. Have lots of fun!

OK - I think I have it figured out. I got this idea a few minutes ago whilst I was watching the planning DVD (again)...

We will arrive by car late morning. We always go to DTD first and it's a tradition that we always eat our first dinner or lunch at Planet Hollywood. Well, I will drop off DD at DTD and say I need to go see if we can check in. We'll set up a meeting point for later (we always communicate by cell phone also). While she's checking out DTD, I'll go check in at POR and then take the boat back to DTD. Then, she and I will meet up, eat at PH, and then I'll say, "Let's check out these boats." We'll climb aboard, arrive at POR and I'll show her to our room! Whatya think?

I'm glad I made the switch from PC to POR. And I love surprises. DW & DS don't know about the surprise, either. They'll arrive May 19 and we'll surprise them with a nite at POR - then on to Poly for 4 nites! I know PC is a great resort, but we have always wanted to stay at POR...(even when it was Dixie Landings). Of course, truth be told, we've wanted to stay at EVERY WDW resort - lol.

I think that sounds like a great way to surprise her. Have fun with it.
