Hotel Royal Plaza at Downtown Disney

Has anyone ever stayed at the Royal Plaza in Downtown Disney? If so, what did you think, is it comparable to a deluxe or moderate or value resort? I know they don't reopen until July, we aren't going back until November. We have always stayed at Shades Of Green (military hotel at Disney World) except for one stay at the Contemporary (which we did not like). The plaza says they have Bath and Body works soaps and shampoos, (this has not convinced my husband, but I'm pretty excited). Any opinions? I wonder if the bus routes are as convenient as they are from other resorts? Thank you!

First of all, welcome to DisneyCentral!

I haven't stayed at a Downtown Disney resort so I am not much help here but I think I have read that many of the resorts share a bus and they run on a regular schedule (maybe every 30 minutes?).

Is SoG booked for your dates or are you looking for a change? Have you thought of trying Disney's Wilderness Lodge?? We stayed at Shades of Green last summer and liked it, WL is similar to SoG in many ways.

I have stayed there. It was in 2000 and to be honest I would not recommend it. I am a travel agent and I had a 7 night stay booked there, well I stayed one night and then moved over to a Disney resort. They have done renovations since I have been there but I still wouldn't book any clients at the hotel. Have you tried some of the other hotels in Downtown Disney area or the All Stars?

Re: Hotel Royal Plaza at Downtown Disney

All of the resorts in DD share a bus and it stinks. We decided after that trip we would always stay on property and we would always have our car. Worst part is when you are leaving the parks at night. The busses for the Disney Resorts on property are right there at the gates.

The busses that serve DD are a long walk away and in most cases in the middle of the parking lot. Your bus driver will tell you what number to meet him at when he drops you off. When you are going home you walk out to the parking lot and look for that number on the ground.

This may have changed since we went, that was June '02.

Re: Hotel Royal Plaza at Downtown Disney

We have stayed at the Grosvner and the Best Western at DTD. Each time, it was when we arrived late night from home and we didn't want to "waste" a Disney resort night because all we were going to do was flop into bed. Each time we got up the next morning and moved directly to the Disney Resort where we had ressies. I doubt we'll do that again, though. We realize now that with value resorts, we can afford to "waste" a late night and get started on our Disney experience even earlier. (One positive is that we did get to experience yet another way to see WDW.)

Welcome to DC! We stayed there one night, between our WDW vacation and the cruise. It was ok. Nothing special. The room was pretty large, and it was clean. Kind of like staying at a Holiday Inn. (they did have a rubber ducky in the tub). There's no Disney magic about the place. It's just a hotel.

Re: Hotel Royal Plaza at Downtown Disney

We stayed at the Royal Plaza when it first opened. Of course, back then it was really a nice Resort. Then tried once to stay again at Best Western. Would never stay at any of those Resorts, because of their bus system. Of course, we did have a free breakfast every morning at the Best Western, and the rooms were large. But again, because of the buses sharing with all those other Resorts, it's a no for me. Again this is only my opinion. Good luck to you whatever you may choose. JOANN
