Allstar Movies in August but a little Scared
Hi all,
I know I asked this before, but now that I'm close to calling Mickey at Mouseketrips.com to book my trip, I am getting a little nervous about the weather. Because my wife dosen't want to take my daughter out of school, the summer months are all we have. Is August so brutally hot that we will really not enjoy ourselves and are the crowds so massive that we will not get to go on a lot of rides. Please help me decide. For instance, do you get any relief from the weather at night or does the heat never let up. I really don't want to spend all this money and not have a good time because we won't be able to stay outside for too long. Is Florida's August much hotter than New York's August or is the summer heat the same? I really want to go, but please if anyone has been there in August I would really love to know the truth or more like the pros and cons. I have been there in March and May. May was a little hot but nothing I couldn't handle. When I was a kid we went in June, but I don't really remember the heat. Thanks so much for any information. STEMIKGER DISNEY FOREVER :) :) :) :) :) :) Last edited by stemikger; 09-24-2002 at 01:30 AM. |

Well, I usually go in the winter or spring, so I can't comment on what it is like. I was in NYC two years ago, and it was over 100 every day, and I thought I would almost die. Nothing like standing outside wearing a tuxedo all day long in 100 degree weather.
As far as Orlando, I would suggest taking a look at the Weather.com site. They list the average daily temperature for each day, as well as the low, record high and record low. August weather for Orlando, FL As far as crowds, August is typically the slowest summer month. Many of the people here that went this August reported fairly short lines. I am sure that others who have visited in August will be able to help you more than I have.

I went in August twice. Once when I was a kid and then again in 97. The key to enjoying yourself in August is this. Get up very early and enjoy the parks. Get out of there around 12:30 or so and go back to the hotel to either nap or swim and go back to the parks around 4 or so. The heat between those hours to me was brutal. Other than that it is fine. Just drink lots of water and wear lots of sunscreen. There is no reason why you can't enjoy yourself this time of year. Many many people do it. Best of luck and don't worry. Let us know what you decide and maybe let us help you with more questions. I enjoy any chance to talk about Disney LOL

stemikger,
We went in the first week of June this year, and they were breaking record high temperatures (upper 90's, high humidity), but we still had a great time. The only real problem that we had was my 2 year old. She would immediately wilt as soon as we stepped outside. Dana got the practical parts right on. I would only add that if it is brutally hot or really crowded AND you try to go commando, you will probably be disappointed. Pick out the stuff that you really want to do, pace yourselves, and everything else is gravy. Bruce

We visited WDW this past August, actually it was the 6th-11th and while the weather was in the upper 90's it wasn't too bad.
The lines at most of the attractions were not over 40 minutes in wait time. Also, it rained almost everyday for an hour or so. At those times, the lines were extremely short and we were able to get onto Rockin Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror with VERY little wait as an example!! We have already booked our trip for next August again.:D

I just went this August and it really wasn't that bad. It did rain almost every afternoon (late around 3-4) and this was a cool relief from the heat. So, wearing our poncho we enjoyed the rain and the shorter lines (a lot of people seem to leave the parks once the rain starts).
As for the weather being hot, I live in NJ and I don't feel a big difference at all. Actually, when we were there it was hotter in NJ then in Fl. The lines weren't bad either, we didn't wait longer than 15-20 minutes for anything, most we just walked onto. The only place you might finds lines would be in the MK on the major attractions. We missed all of them during the day and did E-ride night with no wait for anything. |

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge from the August 17th to the 25th. I am from Delaware and it was hotter at home then in Florida. I found that the lines were not bad at all. Try to go around the third week of August the kids in Florida are usually back to school by then. The week we were at Disney they had two e-nights we were able to go to one park in the morning
and then come back and swim until about 6pm and then go to e-night. :) |

We just went the first week of Aug. It was the least crowded I have ever seen it! There were some things we literally walked on and did not wait at all. The only large crowds were at the Magic Kingdom. Even then I don't think we waited long except at Splash Mtn(even with a Fast Pass) It was hot but rains cooled things off. My DGD had a battery fan that sprayed water and that kept her happy. I have been in spring and several times in June-this was our best trip as far as the crowd goes. We didn't even get there until about an hour after the parks opened! Have a ball!
