Icon5 Resort Split

We are planning our second trip to the World and are hoping to stay a total of nine nights. We'd like to stay at CBR for the first eight and switch to AKL for the last night. How great of a hassle is this? Any details are appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Resort Split

I did "the switch" in January from AKL to the Polynesian. They really make it easy for you. You will have to have your bags picked up very early in the morning on your check out day. Be sure to check with bell services and let them know of your switch and ask what time you need to have them picked up by. They do all their transfers after 3pm, so leave any clothes you think you will need in a carry-on. There was no hassle with this at all, but I don't think I will do it again. I like staying in the one resort at a time. If you can do it, maybe try staying at AKL for two nights. The resort is gorgeous and you will wish you had another night there. I highly suggest packing one seperate small suitcase for your last day at AKL. That way you will not have to unpack again after your move. It will be almost like starting a new trip. I do hope you enjoy the AKL as much as I did. I have stayed there twice now and loved it both times.

Re: Resort Split

I don't think it is a hassle at all. We often switch lodging when we visit Orlando, and it has never been a big problem. Guest services at WDW makes it easy, too! You can have the "suitcase handlers" (I just drew a complete blank on the correct term!) pick up your luggage at CBR and ask them to transfer it to AKL. Your luggage will be waiting for you when you check in. Simple! Just place the things that you'll need to access on top of your stuff in your suitcase(s) and then you can just remove those things when you are in your AKL room and all of your other belongings will still be all packed for when you are ready to check out. Have a great time! Hakuna Matata!

Re: Resort Split

Thanks for the response! I will give serious thought to staying two nights (if I can convince DBF ), like you have to twist my arm. Am I correct in assuming we will need to check in again at AKL after 3pm? Or is this already taken care of? Thanks again!

Re: Resort Split

You will have to check in at AKL--but you can do that any time of day. If your room isn't ready you will get your keys and a card with a number on it to call after 3 to get your room number.

We have changed resorts in the middle of our stay and it isn't a big deal. We check out and then go check in at the new resort before we hit the parks for the day.

DT is right. You can check in at any time. If the room isn't ready, just go to the park and head back later like you would checking in when you first get there. The bags might not be there then anyway. they have certain times for the baggage transfers. It's not a quick process, but it's very efficient. I didn't get my bags at the Polynesian until 4pm becuase AKL doesn't do their transfers until 3pm. The CBR may have a different time schedule. Just inform the front desk of what you are doing and ask the bell services what time to expect your luggage. Do let the AKL know that you are having bags transferred from the CBR. You will have to call bell services for them. They will not be automatically taken to your room unless the policy has changed since Janaury. Definately try talking DBF into another night at AKL....he will be glad you did. It's simply beautiful there...I wish I could swing another stay there in October./

Re: Resort Split

If you are only staying a night at your new resort and have a car you might try packing a small over night bag with a change of clothes for each of you so you don't have to drag in all of your suitcases.

Re: Resort Split

I too am planning to split my next vacation between Poly & BW. However, we are traveling with 3 children (1,6,8) Wondered if it isn't better to catch a cab and bring our luggage directly to the hotel. That way we don't have to wait for our luggage if a room is available early?

Re: Resort Split

I have always wanted to switch resorts---but DBF likes to have a "home base"....I wish I could convince him that it's as easy as you say....and we have our own car...so that would make it even easier dont you think?

I did! We're now staying two nights at AKL. Right now, we're booking a water view, because of budget concerns, but if some extra cash happens to show up, we'll try to upgrade to a savannah view. Thanks!

Re: Resort Split

We're staying at WL for 16 days and then AKL for 6 days so hopefully the transfer will be alright. We've never split before so it will be different experience.
