AKL or a Mod?

I called CRO today to see about a room @ the end of May, when DS is done with school. What they offered me in my price range was AKL or a mod with my AP discount. I know alot of you like AKL, but when we were there for breakfast I was not impressed. Did I just miss the good stuff there? I can't decide weather to stay there or not. So in this thread I would like you all to convince me one way or the other.

Re: AKL or a Mod?

If you could not see all the good stuff then maybe AKL is just not right for you. I don't even know where to begin. Atmosphere, the food, the view from your balcony... like I say, maybe it's just not to your taste. But if the price is nearly the same, why not go Deluxe?

Re: AKL or a Mod?

We stayed at AKL once. It was a great experience. We used the FL resident rate an assumed we would have one of those rooms overlooking the parking lot. We were surprised to get an upgrade to a Savannah room, which was what made the trip special. It was an experience having the animals roaming outside your window. DH was like a little kid.

On the other hand, we have had opportunities to return to AKL for a great price, But have chosen not to. We stick to our old favorite POR. So I voted Mod. We have stayed in all the Mod's but POR is our fav!!

Re: AKL or a Mod?

When we went to AKL for dinner at Boma (loved!!!) I the feel of AKL was not for me. It felt to dark. I liked looking around a bit but it just did not seem like a place I would want to stay. I hope to stay at POR some time so that's my vote.

Re: AKL or a Mod?

How old is DS? Is he in to animals? If so, you gotta stay at AKL so that he can wake up and look out the window and see zebras, giraffes etc. If this really isn't his thing then stay at POR.

Re: AKL or a Mod?

I voted POR because we love it! AKL looks wonderful, I have been told by friends that it is so far from everything tho and you spend too much time on a bus! Not my take, a friend that has stayed there's take!

Re: AKL or a Mod?

AKL in a heartbeat!!!!

The decor is gorgeous. The pool is inviting. The restaurants (Boma and Jiko) are top-notch. Looking out on the savannahs and seeing all of the animals is an awesome experience.

Re: AKL or a Mod?

I voted AKL, but that's just me - if I had my choice between a moderate and a deluxe, I'd go deluxe for sure! But if you think AKL isn't really your style, then there's no use. Just remember that whichever one you pick, you'll still be in Disney!!

Re: AKL or a Mod?

It is so hard to decide!!! Ds will be 6 in a few weeks and I think he would like the animals at AKL and maybe the pool. But if it takes forever on the buss, that makes it hard for my DD who is 2. Would we be better off driving ourselves? We mainly want to go to MGM for Star Wars weekend, and Epcot for the Folwer and Garden show. I know we will more then likely be at MK at sometime, but it is not our focus this trip I don't think.

Re: AKL or a Mod?

When we are at WDW we drive nearly all the time. I am not one to stand and wait for the buses, I like to jump in the car and off we go!
We are staying at AKL at new year. We were at Boma for breakfast in July and it was great! The hotel seemed so friendly as did every one around!

So I would go for AKL if you can afford it!

We really like POR. However, if you can afford the $$, AKL rocks.

The Bus trips are only long to Magic Kingdom, but that's almost a given. I've never had any trouble with my son when he was one or two... still each child is different.

Re: AKL or a Mod?

I vote for the AKL.
We stayed there once and had a great savannah view. Our DD was 12yrs when we stayed at AKL and was sooo excited about the view that she dashed through our room and ran nose first into the glass balcony door! I am afraid that next time we might not be so lucky to get a savannah view though...I mean, a parking lot view just would not be the same! :)
