Re: No Toddlers in Pools ?

Maybe I am ok since the only public hot tub we use is the one at an indoor water park. The only way you use the indoor water park is to stay in the hotel it is connected to which runs you a minimum of 200 a night if you get a special. The last time we stayed there, it cost us 400 for the night. Needless to say this is a big treat for us when we need to get away. If the water park there got shut down, their business would be ruined. We have a pool at our house and I check my chlorine levels daily. I have never had my skin get irritated when I swim at home; however when we got to the indoor water park, my skin gets a rash and becomes itchy if I stay in the water too long. I asked my allergist about it and he said it looks like a reaction to the chlorine, so I guess they keep their chlorine levels on the high end. Then again, maybe I am just kidding myself because I love to take a weekend getaway and since it is close and the kids have a ball, we go there a couple of times a year.

Re: No Toddlers in Pools ?

Does this mean that the hot tub at my Apt is nasty? I'm so not happy....

Something's not right with that pool. I'd report it to the county health department--not to snitch, but to ensure people's health.

Jenny, how well-maintained is your apartment complex. If you see them cutting corners on general maintenance, I'd buy a pool testing kit and check the Chlorine and pH levels of the hot tub before using it.

Re: No Toddlers in Pools ?

After starting this whole thing now I wouldn’t even put my potty trained daughter into the pool…. The biggest problem is the parents who will throw a regular swim suit on their child instead of a swim diaper so they can go into the pool without any questions….

Being a parent I would prefer that Disney (who sets age restrictions for everything else) just post a sign NO CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 5 ALLOWED IN POOL WITHOUT A SEALED SWIM SUIT BOTTOM.

That way everyone is more protected and if you do see a child running around in a regular suit you know they are in violation.

My daughter had her first swimming lesson at the local pool yesterday (in a swim diaper),
and she wasn’t too thrilled with the idea….. So hopefully she will be fine with the water fountains and not be too upset that other children are in the pool and she won’t be able too…

Go figure – She can’t go in the pool on the ship but can at the beach at Castaway Key and she can’t go in the lake at Fort Wilderness’s Beach and has to use the pool……

Poor kid won’t know if she is coming or going! (no pun intended)

Re: No Toddlers in Pools ?

Urine is NOT a concern in a chemically balanced pool. Only feces and vomit.

A 5yo swim diaper requirement would be unenforceable. Parents lie about kids ages, and etc.

Besides I've twice had to close a pool with 9-10 year olds pooping in it!

Re: No Toddlers in Pools ?

Very seldom do we get in any pool other than our own. You never know what is in it. I for one do not want to swim in anyones, urine, feces, vomit or boogies.

Re: No Toddlers in Pools ?

I know it is a bummer, especially when you are paying the big bucks for a really special vacation treat! But we have had so many problems in our town pool -- e.coli and other bacteria causing all kinds of problems for the other kids. So I can see both sides of the issue. If I were running the show, I would have one of those sprinkler fountains for tots to play in, so there is no standing water and lots of fun!

Just as an FYI - I found a link on the Disney Cruise website that is similar.
Is it true that children must be toilet-trained in order to enter the pools?

as well as some CDC links that are really informative:
