Free day to visit resorts?

Here's a question...

Since we are lucky enough to have the timeshare for a week, and only have 3 days at Disney (and MAY be lucky enough to do Universal for a day), that leaves us a few days. I decided that on Saturday (on Memorial Day weekend), we're going to do something we have yet to do, tour the resorts!

Now last year we were lucky enough to be able to stay onsite for a night for the first time, at the All Star Music.

Obviously, we're rookies in this department, so I thought I'd come to the experts who have provided such great dvice before.. you guys.

I figured we'd spend the day checking out the resorts for the first time. Now mind you, we ARE rookies, so we have no idea what to see first, where to go, what modes of transportation are available to us (if any, like the boat ride/ferry/monorail or anything), and what we absolutely MUST see...

So I'm hoping to hear from you guys on this all so we can plan accordingly. Thanks!!

The only thing I would ad/ask is if you are done with your Disney passes would you still be able to tour the resorts and use the internal transportation.

I would say yes. I have never seen or heard of anyone being IDed to use Disney transport.

As for which resorts and what order to do it, I would say you are best to do the 3 monorail resorts using Disney transport and then your own vehicle for getting to the other ones. I would also suggest that you consider eating brunch and/or dinner at one of the resorts so that you can rest and recharge your batteries.

I second this. ALK is impressive! You can also view all the animals on the Savannah. The Grand Floridian is fun to visit because it's just so gorgeous and luxurious.

You know - a day without the parks, doesn't necessarily need to be a non-Disney day. You could save that day to visit the Marketplace and Downtown Disney, you could miniature golf at Fantasia or Winter/Summerland. You could go to the Boardwalk - they have entertainment going on - jugglers, fire-eaters, etc. While on the Boardwalk you can walk around the lake and tour the Yacht and Beach Club and the Boardwalk Resort.

Re: Free day to visit resorts?

You can park at DTD and hop a boat to a resort to aviod paying for parking...(I know..I know...it technically is cheating Disney...BUT she's not going to the parks..) Otherwise I think that they only give you a 3 hour pass...and I never give DTD enough credit...thats a pretty great way to fill an off day too!

I think so....
this website shows you how can get from resort to resort park to park using disney transport...
http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/asp/twiz.asp

It says you can take a boat from DTD to one of the Port Orleans resorts...I thought it was more than that.....I'd just take the buses to one of the monorail resorts check those out...then get off at MK or even EPCOT gates and catch a bus to non monorail resorts

Re: Free day to visit resorts?

no prob...it's kinda of like cheating...but I think it's okay as long as your not parking at DTD and then heading off to a park to get free parking...
