Polynesian Resort vs. Animal Kingdom Lodge
I have stayed at both resorts more then one occassion. I kind of grew up with the Polynesian since I stayed there from age 4 until I turned 18. The Animal Kingdom Lodge I have only stayed in twice - the first time was last October and again when I was on vacation last week. I have grown to like Animal Kingdom Lodge as much as the Polynesian. Both are different but they both have exotic themes one being Hawaiian Islands themed and the other being African themed and having animals roam around the resort hotel.
Anyways I am wondering out of these two excellent hotels which one do you like more? |

AKL hands down. Don't even get me started *again* on the Poly.

Re: Polynesian Resort vs. Animal Kingdom Lodge
Oh Boy this is a really tough one for. We love the POLY so much and we were married there so it holds a special place in our hearts.... But AKL hands down is our favorite out of both. When we stayed there back in 2003 and the resort is so AWESOME.

Oh gosh....they're my two favorites! How am I supposed to choose?!?!?
![]() I haven't stayed at AKL yet, but I just fell in looooooove with it. *swoon* It's just as magical and wonderful as the Poly... But I'd have to go with the Poly this time, simply because you can swim in the pool and watch the castle change colors across the lagoon. How can that get anymore magical? ![]()

Re: Polynesian Resort vs. Animal Kingdom Lodge
Stayed at AKL in 2002. Will be staying at Poly in October. I really liked AKL, and we do go out of our way to eat at Boma. But locationwise, and it always comes back to location, the Poly wins for me. I won't repeat myself here, but my opinions on the various resorts are out there in various threads. I prefer the deluxe resorts for a variety of reasons. Short transit time to the parks is a very big part of it. Now, all I have to do is stay at the Grand Floridian and the Boardwalk, and I'll have done all the Disney Deluxes (still missing Swan too).
Good coffee at Boma or shrimp omlet at Kona Cafe (with good coffee too). You decide.

Re: Polynesian Resort vs. Animal Kingdom Lodge
I'd say AKL, strictly because I'm not a huge fan of the Hawaiian theme. Yes, it's very, very pretty. However, it's not something that I just go ga-ga over. I think it's because, when I think Hawaii, I think luau. And I just do NOT like luaus. *shudder*
We've decided that, next time, we're going to stay at WL, strictly based on the ease of getting to all the parks. We wanted AKL this time, because it's out of the way, and looks like it's going to be very romantic. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on for AKL, and have found out some really interesting things. However, next time, it'll be WL all the way. Centrally (more or less) located, and, according to some of the things I've read, at night, it looks like a bear's head when you're crossing the water. Plus, I'd love to be able to take my boys and be involved with the flag-raising ceremony.

Re: Polynesian Resort vs. Animal Kingdom Lodge
Both resorts are gorgeous, but I am going to pick AKL. I think you get more for your money at the AKL.

Re: Polynesian Resort vs. Animal Kingdom Lodge
AKL no question!!!! I've never stayed at the Poly, but I did visit there for the luau. (dont waist your money, but that's another thread). Everything is too spread out for my taste. Also, I have difficulty walking distances and, unlike CBR or CS, there is no internal shuttle to get around the place (that I know of). Finally, when I think of Hawaii, I think of sun and bright colors. The Poly is a bit too dark for me in that regard.

Re: Polynesian Resort vs. Animal Kingdom Lodge
My vote is for the Poly. It is by no means dark, rather open and airy, and it is quite compact and easy to walk around. In fact, you can easily walk to the TTC, and you can catch the monorail or boats to the MK. You don't spend a lot of time on the buses to get to the other parks, and they are normally not too crowded. You are also a hop, skip, and a jump to the CR and GF, which is good on rainy days. You also have the beach, the water parade, and the fireworks over MK.
