Hey Lauren, I was just reading some old threads and I saw that you're surprising DD (and was reminded that we'll be at PC at the same time)

How are you doing it? When will you tell her?

I'm just curious b/c we surprised our kids two years in a row.

Well, funny Matt that you should ask this. The original plan was to pick her up from school early (with Grandparents) and drive to the airport, once she guessed we'd let her know, but then she would have been surprised when Auntie and her family were already at the airport!!!! And then when we got to Pop, I was going to send her to "Aunties" room, and my brother and his fiancee would be there. We had several other little surprises planned throughtout the week as well. (Discovery Cove being one of them)

Well, 3 weeks ago on this Saturday coming up, she fell off her horse and broke her arm, and dislocated is 90% out of the socket. She needed 3 hours of surgery, with 3 pins placed. After much talking with each other, and the Orthopedic surgery, we decided to continue with our plans, minus discovery cove.

Well, tommorow was supposed to be there field trip at Roger Williams Zoo, I just got a call from a friend of mine, that it's been rescheduled to Thursday!!!!! She has a Dr's appointment at 1:00, (He's putting a removable splint that she can swim with on) and our flight leaves PVD at 4:50. There's no way she can go. I don't want to tell her she can't go because of a Dr's appointment, but I've worked so hard to keep this a surprise for her. I'm having a terrible time deciding what to do.....Opinions anybody?????

So, Matt.....if you see a little blonde girl walking around with a splint....be sure to say Hi!!!!!!..............and, btw....aren't you glad you asked?

First of all, I hope she's ok. What hospital is she getting treated at? (DW works at MGH)

Second of all, call the airline and tell them. Worst case, you can get surcharged for a later flight. If you're having problems getting to providence, call a livery co that works out of TF Green (http://www.pvdairport.com/ground_tra...taxi_train.htm)

Lauren, the BEST way to heal is to have fun.

I will definately look out for her b/c I know you'll find a way to get down there. (What's her name? That will certainly add to the magic. )

I just don't think that she'll be able to go to her field trip. I'm sure once she finds out that we're going to be at Disney she'll forget all about that field trip But I just know how sorry she's going to be feeling for herself when she doesn't get to go. She's being treated at Milford Hospital. It's only about 15 minutes from our house.
Her name is Devyn. She is tall, most people think she's older than her age (which will be 7 when we get there)

I hope we see you and your family there!!! Are your kids getting surprised this time??? Or do they know???

OK- it is wonderful that you are surprising your daughter!!!! I hope that her arm heals QUICKLY!!!!!! I would just explain to her that you have another special surprise waiting for her after the Doctor's appointment and that it is sooo huge that you have to reschedule the visit to the zoo for a time when her arm is all healed up! (Can you do this???) The big surprise could probably make her arm feel better and make her forget about not going to the zoo...maybe you could go to another zoo very soon (are you going to AK during your trip?). I have used the "lets do this another time so that we can do something much more fun" trick before.
Good luck with the doctor's visit and I hope that she heals quickly-- most of all- enjoy your trip to WDW!!!!

She just got home from school, and said her field trip was rescheduled to "another day" so I'm not sure if she knows it's Thursday or not. I'll keep it to myself for as long as I can!!!

Another idea I just had is, if she completely looses it (she just may, she's been through a lot the last couple of weeks) is to tell her we are going (just the 3 of us) and then surprise her with everyone else that is going.

Spider is right. Every time I see your picture I think it is a promo shot for Disney!

Maybe you could rethink the first surprise and think of a fun way to tell her before. Like a scavenger hunt to find things that lead her to the surprise. And like you said it could still be a surprise that other family will be there.

Hey Lauren:

I'm glad I misunderstood. So, she misses the Zoo and gets to go to Disney. That's a pretty good compromise. Don't tell her about Disney. Holding off and keeping the surprise will pay dividends. I know it'll be hard, but it's only 3 more days!

For us, no surprises this year. We're flying out of Logan on Saturday evening and spending most of the day Sunday at Blizzard Beach.

You're doing two resorts right? When are you leaving PC? We'll be around the resort mid-day and then heading to dinner at DTD around 4:30.

Oh, Lauren, I know how hard this has to be. I hate to see my guy hurting and if there is something that will make the disappointment less I want to use it. Try not to tell Devyn until you get to the airport. Is there something else you can come up with that will make her feel better w/o telling her about the trip? A day trip she enjoys?
