Animal Kingdom - Our next trip...

Our 3rd trip in a year and this time we've decided to spend it at the AKL. With the AP discount this is really cost effective, though we worry about being so far from the other parks - is this a concern? Do the buses really run more often just for AKL guests and are reliable?

We have a poolside room allocated, is there a particular area of the resort that's better than others?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Get a savannah view on Zebra trail. AKL is great, it's Pete's favorite resort - we spent a week there in January, and it was fabulous. Can't attest to the bus situation though, we had our car with us, and it was no problem being further away from everything. Have you considered renting a car?

Great choice!!

The bus transportation there is great! It doesn't "share" with other resorts, so it's much more direct and convienent.

The Zebra trail is awesome, just try and get a room close to the lobby, which should be close to the pool area also.

Have Fun!!

AKL is an excellent choice! It's the best themed Disney resort IMO. I wouldn definitely try to get a savannah view room if you can since that is the ultimate AKL experience. We never had a problem with the buses to and from the AKL. They have buses running all the time, the longest wait we had was probably 10 minutes.

Re: Animal Kingdom - Our next trip...

You have picked an excellent resort. I have stayed there twice. Don't the the location scare you. The transportation at that resort is VERy efficient. I rarely had to wait for than a few minutes for a bus. The best part of the trasnportation at that resort is that you don't share buses with any other resort like you do at the other deluxes. The savannah rooms are definately the best to have. I have stayed in the Zebra trail both visits and cannot tell you how awesome that location is. You wake up to animals outside your balcony everyday...perfect and relaxing. The pool is HUGE and there are two hot tubs. You have picked a winner.

Oooo...I am so happy for you! . We stayed at the AKL in a Savannah view and had to drag ourselves out of the rooms in order to enjoy the rest of the World. I agree that if you ask for a room closer to the lobby you are more likely to be closer to the pool. Have a wonderful time

Keep an eye on mousesavers.com over the next few months, the discounts should be out by fall.

The other thing about the buses for AKL is that they are closer to the park exits than for any of the moderates or values. You know the old saying, "You get what you pay for" applies in this case. It's nice not to have to walk that extra 100 to 150 yds or so to get to the bus stop for your resort at the end of a long day in the parks.

January is value season so you will be getting a good price to start with. A great way to ensure a disocunt is to buy an anual pass for yourself and book a room only. The discounts for that time frame came out around end of october last year if I remember correctly. I got a great deal on my rooms there.

Re: Animal Kingdom - Our next trip...

Thanks everyone! We MIGHT get a Savannah room, but after 3 trips we're pretty tapped out on Disney Dollars if you catch my drift, so trying to keep it all in line. With the AP's and the discounts it should be a very inexpensive proposition - less than a week on the Cape - which is amazing when you consider it's Disney. Savanah would kick it up another grand or so, money maybe better spent given little time spent in the room.

I just have to tell my son he won't be at the Polynesian's Volcano slide - poor little guy. ;)

There is a good chance you might be able to get a free upgrade in January, because it is value season, it won't be so busy then. You never know!

!!! Oh I so agree! We stayed at AKL, then our next trip at PC. From front of the line to the back of the line! That extra walking was a killer at the end of a very long day!
