Treehouse Villas-what An Eyesore

(I just wrote about this in today's trip report installment, but I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention...)

On the boat rides back and forth between POR and DTD, we went right past the old Treehouse Villas resort. It was one of the original home-away-from-home resorts but it was shut down (in 2001, I believe).

The Villas are now the biggest eyesore I've ever seen at WDW! They were evidently just abandoned one day, shut down and left to rot - in full public view! I could not believe my eyes! The drapes were left open, lights are left on, trash, debris and junk piled all over the place inside and out. On some of the units (right next to the water), the porches were rotten and had collapsed. At night, with the lights on, you can see all the junk inside even better. (The beds still had linens on them...)

I was shocked Disney left the Villas in such a state, especially in full view. It is very UN-disney like.

Anyone else see this??

Funny you should bring this up. We were talking about this very topic while you were gone. It's very sad that Disney has let something go to that degree.

Oh no ! I hope that something is done to remedy this prior to our visit. It is indeed sad that Disney has let this happen . Thank you though for the warning, now maybe it won't be such a shock

I agree. I was told that because that area has been rededicated as protected wetlands, Disney can do little to these villas. That is, they can't really make any improvements. I suppose, one day soon, they will simply remove them.

I have not seen this...and I'm glad (although I guess if it's still there I'll see it when we stay @ POR in November)...I'm very disturbed by things like that. The unfinished (and seemingly stagnant) Legendary Years buildings at PC just give me an eerie feeling...same with River Country. And empty rooms that just look "abandoned"...ugh...yeah, that's totally gives me a creepy crawly feeling...am I just weird or do any of you know what I mean?? Not the way I want to feel at Disney!!

Eww. Why would they leave it nasty like that? That is completely UNdisney. I thought I had heard that they were going to use them as offices... I just imagine why they would leave that trashy for everyone to see and then have it lit up at night so you get an even better view of it...that's crazy.

Re: Treehouse Villas-what An Eyesore

The boat captain on the way from POR to downtown disney told us that they used to go for $350/nite. Some of them are 3 bedrooms and still have all the appliances in the kitchens, etc. It makes me sick when I think of how many people are homeless.
