What should we pack to spend a week at WDW?

undefined
Hi Folks! We're very excited because we leave for Disney in 16 days. Not sure who's more excited me our my 5 year old! Anyway, I was wondering if you knew what we should pack - how much is too much? I've heard that it rains everyday in July in Florida? Should we bring rain gear? We're staying at the POP CENTURY resort...anyone been there? I've heard that it has 3 pools but in the photos I only see one - shaped like a bowling pin?? Also, we were wondering about the meal plan? Is it worth it? Thanks for answering ALL my questions!!

Re: What should we pack to spend a week at WDW?

Hi Janie, welcome to DC How long are you staying? When I go for a week, I usually only pack 2 pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans, and 6 or 7 tee shirts. It does rain every day, but usually only for about 10 minutes. It's not worth bringing rain gear, IMHO, just duck & cover.

I've never been to POP Century, but many here have.

Janie! Welcome!

Pack for hot weather and don't forget bathing suits.

Pop Century is AWESOME! We're going back on Saturday. IMO, some of the nicest CM's work there.

I've heard that the meal plan is definately worth it, especially if you eat at some of the more expensive restaurants.

I hope you have a GREAT time!

First off welcome to DC. Hope you take the time to do a trip repoort for us when you get home. We love details.
So what type of things are you looking for us to remind you of.
Stroller-well that depends on your child and your touring style.
Rain gear- buy the cheap 77 cent ponchos at Walmart to keep in your backpack but only use if you get a full day of rain.
Clothes- it is going to be HOT so be prepared.
Shoes- sneaker and/or very comfortable sandals.
Under no circumstances are you allowed to forget sunblock, sunglasses, and deodorant.
Have a blast.

Re: What should we pack to spend a week at WDW?

Some "learn from my mistakes" recommendations:
-This is not the time for new sneakers or sandals. Stick with what is already comfortable, even if it's not new and fresh.
-You will be happy if you have rain ponchos, but spotting your child in a sea of Mickey ponchos will be easier if you bring him or her a poncho from home, so he stands out.
-A cheap umbrella stroller from Walmart or somewhere is worth is to us, rather than renting them from the park. They are nice to have at the resort, at the airport, waiting for busses at the end of the day, etc. Park strollers can't help you there. (We are bringing ours for our 5 year old because even though she is kind of big for it, I KNOW she is going to collapse and I don't want to carry her.)

- Aye, aye matey, definately bring ye an inexpensive umbrella-type stroller.
- If you are in the MK, rent a locker by the train station. It's very convenient to store changes of clothing, sunblock, film, etc., and it is great to unload any loot ye might have plundered (purchased) during ye travels matey.

The other two pools at PC are the Hippy Dippy pool and the Computer pool. Regardless of which building you are in, there will be a pool close to you!!

Re: What should we pack to spend a week at WDW?

These are fabulous tips...I would have never thought of packing our stroller but can see now how useful it will be...and after the trip, if we destroy it...we'll leave it behind! Another question...we did not purchase the MEAL PLAN...what are your thoughts? Is it worth it to upgrade? Buy meal vouchers on ebay? Or should we just pay cash as we go? Again, thanks so much for this incredible info!! Janie

Do not buy vouchers on Ebay. (Way to overpriced) If your family likes to do sit down meals I suggest doing the meal plan. If you dont like to do sit down meals just pay for them outright.

I can't tell ya waht to pack
BUT
I can vouch for the dining plan! It's awesome and we saved tons of money!
Do make sure you research it first, and make advanced reservations.

Re: What should we pack to spend a week at WDW?

You and your daughter will love PC! My DS (8) and DStepS (8) loved the Hippy Dippy pool (it's shaped like a big flower). There is also a little play fountain on your way from Classic Hall to the 70's building that I had a tough time getting my DS away from (look for the Corvette!).

Try to bring a little something with you to keep your daughter occupied during long line waits (bubbles, little etch-a-sketches, etc.). July is a busy time...plan for a little wait time.

We always bring ponchos, but we're park commandos. I would suggest bringing a couple from home, so you look different from everyone else, and then use them on the really rainy days. If it's just a light shower, head inside somewhere.

Re: What should we pack to spend a week at WDW?

I am glad you are taking a stroller, my 5 year old wouldn't have had half the trip w/o it. He just tires easily in that heat. On your last day look for a family to pass it off to had tell them to do the same on their last day. I like to pass it forward.

We take some snacks to have in the room. My DS eats lots of PopTarts so I throw a box or two if those in and some chips and other single size bags of snacks.

If you are going to spend some time at your resort buy one or two of the refillable mugs when you get to Pop. You can share the mug and fill it up as many times as you want.

I like to throw a bottle of Downy Wrinkle Releaser in so I don't have to worry about how much I cram in a suitcase.

You will need rain gear in the summer. You can get it at home before you leave or once you get to WDW. Every shop has ponchos they pull out as soon as the showers hit. We roll them up and reuse them as needed.
