Fort Wilderness Questions

Now that lil'pocohontas has caved (pun intended), we're taking the pop-up to FW in January. I have some questions for those in the know.

I'm ASSUMING FW is pretty empty in January. Can anyone comment?

What sites are more desirable? I have 3 kids under the age of 5. Being close to a playground would be wonderful. (I only want to be near the pool if it's warm. So the whole trip isn't "Daddy, WHY can't we swim?)

Where can I find a map of FW? I know websites are out there, but I figure you all are better than google.

Any other advice about camping at FW?

Thanks for the help!!!

I'm going to WDW!!!!!

Picture of a popup camper at a partial hookup site.
I wonder what partial hookup is. Maybe that means "no cable"

I have just read that the 800 loop is the best to stay on, but further investigation of the map is necessary, of course!

Re: Fort Wilderness Questions

It looks like Loop 300 has a playground, restrooms, and a bus stop.

Loop 1300 has playgrounds on both sides, bus stops, and restrooms.

We have not camped there but we have gone to some events there like the Hoop Dee Doo and the Campfire. It is a fun, low-key place!

Caver -
From what I have read, it's best to choose a site that is closest to a bus stop. I can imagine it will be hard to get around with your three young ones if you have lots of walking to do. A playground would be cool, but you should be more concerned about the bus stop. That place is huge. You also have the option to rent one of those golf cart things to get around for like $35 a day. Sounds steep, but may be the best money you spend if it's as huge as the reviews say.

Re: Fort Wilderness Questions

We camp every year in Dec. and it is crowded. We always make our ressies very early. You may want to call now!

Loops 1500-1900 are Pet loops.
2200-2800 are cabin loops.
We usually stay at loops 1200, 1300 or 1400.

That's what I thought.

I think she's just being "helpful" that's all.

Hey, I said no "caving to Caver" jokes

Should we stay one week or two? Seriously.

We stayed for 8 days this time - I loved it. I didn't feel rushed at all and we got to do everything we wanted (several times.) It does wear you out though!

Yea, getting used to sleeping in a hotel bed is difficult enough. I'm concerned about not being able to sleep well on a camper bed that many nights in a row coupled with the long, strenuous days.
