Special requests for POR

So I hear that you can put in a special room request at resorts and they will try to accomodate you (obviously to the best they can).

Does anyone have any tips for great rooms at POR? We only requested a standard non-smoking room. Is it really worth the extra $$ to request a "room with a view?" I also hear you can sometimes request free upgrades when you arrive and they will sometimes do that also. Any tips??

Re: Special requests for POR

We put in a request for Aligator Bayou Bldg. 14 because of the trundles and it was close to the main building. It was off season and we stayed for 8 nights. Did not get our request - we even called for a few days to see if we could move and we could not. I was not very happy about it. We were put in Bldg. 28 and it was a hike to the main hall.

As far as the view....it's all pretty. I don't really know what the room with a view would be?

Oh now, roxie, we stayed for 8 nights in building 28 and one morning I had to make the treck 4 times. It's alright. Just look at it as your excercise routine for the week.

Any view is a good view as long as it's on the second floor. The Treehouse effect!!!! and at building 28, the quiet pool is right around the corner.

That is how I looked at it!
My only complaint were those golf carts! Watch out pedestrians!

Re: Special requests for POR

We also requested building 14, because we liked the theming (themeing?) of the Alligator Bayou more than that of the mansions (two VERY different themes here, be sure to check out photos of both before you decide).

Building 14 is the closest building to the main lobby, food court, etc. and is also quite close to the first bus stop and the main pool. We did get our request and enjoyed the room very much.

If you choose the mansions, I've heard that Magnolia Terrace is the most oft-requested building there.

Re: Special requests for POR

My opinion on requesting a view is that it's only necessary at AKL or GF. Certainly none of the moderates, values, or most of the deluxes. You want one at GF so you can see Cinderella's castle, and the whole point of AKL is to see the animals when you wake up every morning. I stayed in Magnolia Terrace (garden view) last month and it was great. I wouldn't throw away your money on a view at any resort except the 2 I mentioned. Just IMHO.

Re: Special requests for POR

According to "The Internet's Largest Unofficial On-Line Guide to Walt Disney World"

TIPS: For a room close to the main building/food court, ask for the Oak Manor (mansion) or Alligator Bayou buildings 14, 15 or 18. For a room close to the main pool, (Ol' Man Island), ask for the Arcadian House or Magnolia Terrace (mansions) or Alligator Bayou buildings 27 or 38. The closest buildings to the bus depots would be the Arcadian House and Magnolia Terrace or Alligator Bayou buildings 24, 34 or 37.

Hope this helps

Just a side note....Oak Manor is a smoking optional building...stay away if anyone suffers from allergies or doesn't like the smoke smell

I think that is really good advice. Who spends time enough in their room to enjoy the view. Although, any view is a great view at POR. Don't waste your money.

Re: Special requests for POR

I have to agree about the views, in theory a waterview sounds nice, but then you get your room. Without a patio or balcony, do you really want the whole resort to look into your room as they pass by?? NO! I got a waterview room at POFQ, but that was only because I opted for a king bed and most of them are corner rooms, so you get a better chance of getting one. It was nice, but with no balcony I never actually looked at it except to enter and leave the room.
Now as far as requests go, I really don't think disney does em anymore. I've heard too many people ask to request something and it NOT happening. Like they say, they will try to accomodate you, try being the key word.

Re: Special requests for POR

we have stayed at POR twice now and both rooms we have had have been great. First was in Alligator Bayou lodge 28 - great location, 2nd floor, near to quiet pool and bus stop and you can request a trundle bed, should you need one. Last visit we changed to Magnolia bend and had room number 8404. Top floor of the building which overlooked a lovely fountain and garden. Very close to bus stop too - but it still remained very quiet and tranquil.

hope this helps a wee bit x

Thanks for the tip on the king bedded rooms. We were trying to decide if we wanted to pay extra for a king bed or water view. Guess we will go for the king bed and hope for the view...although like everyone says....we are never in our room. I just don't want to be stuck in one of the parking lot views!!!!

Re: Special requests for POR

Hey, Peppertink, I think you're trying to steal "my" room! My reservation request says "King Bed, no parking lot view"! Looks like we're going to be there around the same time!
