Booking question....

Does this make sense?

We are going down next year for 9 nights.

We get in late our first night, so we don't need/want to be on a package including tickets and the dining plan till the next day, just a place to sleep.

So, we make a "room only" reservation for the first night, and book a package for the rest of our stay?

Am I missing anything here?
Will we have to "check in" twice?

Thanks !!

Re: Booking question....

I am not sure, but I think yes, you would have to check out and then in again.

Re: Booking question....

You can ask them to "link" the two stays together. If they're able to do that, you shouldn't have to check out and in again and you'll be able to stay in the same room.

Re: Booking question....

I certainly don't claim to be even moderately knowledgeable about park passes etc..., but, when we made a similar reservation recently, we booked our room with the dining plan, and they let us exclude our traveling days from the dining plan.
We have since cancelled that reservation, we were lucky enough to purchase someones DVC points. I am excited about our savings, but will miss the dining plan (unavailable with DVC reservation)

Re: Booking question....

Acutally if you wanted to get the tickets you could. You are talking about a price difference of a couple dollars per ticket. So when you say late how late!?

Maybe there is time for Fireworks or EMH? The difference between a 5 and 6 day is $2-$4. To me that makes little to no difference - Take in fireworks or depending on your ticket type go to Pleasure Island.

Re: Booking question....

Reiko - I didn't even think of removing our travel days from the dining plan. i guess I should plot out when we expect to get there. If it works for dinner why not. We can simply use the counter service and snack another day. Hmmmmm?

Re: Booking question....

Here is what I know...

With MYW plus dining package, you only receive meals for the number of nights you are staying, not number of days. So if you were to stay 9 days/8 nights, you would only receive 8 days worth of dining. So, in theory, you really don't get any meals the day you come anyways. But then you would be covered the day you leave if you plan on having breakfast or luch before you take off. Also, you add on your park passes individually from your room booking. For instance, if you are there 9 days (including arrival and departure days) and don't need to be at the park on the day or get in or are leaving, you can purchase just a 7 day park pass with your package. And don't forget that just because they are outlining you with 1 snack, 1 counter service and 1 sit down meal per day, doesn't mean you have to use it that way. You can just take the credits and use them any way you'd like. Maybe one day, you want to eat a little more than the day before, you could use your extra credits that way (especially with the snacks, which are only a bottle of soda or water or an ice cream bar or an apple or banana or something).

The MYW planning is really pretty simple and flexible. It works kind of like an al a carte menu in a restaurant. You pick and choose what and how much you want, then it all gets lumped together on one plate (or one reservation, as it may be!).

Hope that atleast helps a little.

From my experience, linking them does keep you in the same room but you still have to check out and back in. If there's a way to avoid this, I'd love to know! It doesn't effect me for my next couple trips but we did it on both of our last two.

HOWEVER, we're doing 9 days/8 nights and just got the regular deal. However, we're not paying for the dining plan so the additional day didn't matter to us cost-wise. But you may want the extra day's worth of meals to do a signature dining experience or to eat a breakfast or something on your last day. Just a thought...

Looks like we'll be getting to our resort around 8pm. Doubt we'll want to go to parks or anything at that point.

Re: Booking question....

PS -
Oh yeah we are also leaving early on our last day about 8:30 am , so that's why I am questioning my whole situation, espically the dining plan, which we intend to get since it was so great last trip.

Re: Booking question....

I think either asking to drop a day of dining or two reservations is a good idea since you are getting in late and leaving early. We will have two reservations, one for our first night and one for the rest of the week. We will have to check out and back in but I can do that in a matter of minutes while the rest of the family gets ready.
