MILITARY staying at the Contemporary Resort

First off let me say that I am brand new to this site and from what I see, it is GREAT! Just a wealth of information here. Plus, I am realizing that there are other people out there that are just as crazy about the big mouse as I am!

:) I am so so so excited to be planning our next trip to WDW!!! I haven't been in almost 2 years, needless to say I am in Mickey Withdrawal! We will be there the last 2 weeks of Jan 2003. I currently live in Hawaii and we will be flying to Orlando and meeting family there to vacation with. My husband is in the military and we will be staying at the Contemporary for 9 nights! So, there will be 4 adults. My husband and I have military ID cards and FL drivers license and FL voters registeration cards, so we will be buying the FL Residents Season Pass'.
Here are my questions:

1. Can I but military tickets for my family members that are not military @ the SOG ticket office they have set up at the Contemporary?

2. Does SOG ticket office offer the FL Resident military discounted Season Pass? IF so, does anyone know the price?

3. HOW IS THE CONTEMPORARY? (I have stayed at SOG & the All Star Sports.) I have heard/read some not-so-good things on the resort i.e, bad smell :dazed in the rooms, out of date/not-so contemporary rooms .

4. Does anyone know, since we are going in off peak ( :laugh is there really such thing @ WDW, lol!) if they possibly upgrade you to the Tower???

I know I have asked alot of all of you, but any input you may have is GREATLY appreciated!!! CAN"T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care all and ALOHA!
Heather :)

Hi Heather and Welcome!

You must be so excited!

DH is a marine and we always bought our park passes at MWR. (do you have one of those where you are?)
Do you know about the military discount room rate at other resorts during your time at WDW? I checked into it and the prices are awesome! Mickey will have more info for you if you are interested.

I'm a retired Air Force guy and was down at WDW in Sept and stayed at the Contemporary. The room was large and nice and didn't smell at all. If you have a MWR at your base you can get the passes there before you leave. If any of your family are from Florida they can get them at the Ticket office or guest services at the hotel. If all of you are going to be there for 9 days, the cost for a season past is about the same as buying tickets and they are good for a year. If they go down again in less than a year they don't have to get passes and the savings you get at some of the hotel are very good. Like $89 a night at a moderate hotel on site plus tax. We are season pass holders. I think you can buy up to 6 passes from the MWR in the hotel. They are in Room 8349 I think. It on the third floor of the west wing cloest to MK. The only thing I have against the contemporary was the food court. Not to many selections. Make sure you see the water parade one night . Go to the back and find a nice place to sit on the grass and watch it. It usually show up about 9:45 each night that it doesn't rain. You can also see it from the 4th floor of the tower.

I have stayed at the contemorary resort (in the tower) and let me tell you that the resort is beautiful! They just finished remodeling the lobby and most rooms. They have a very contemporary theme to me. If you want to read some peoples actual review of the contemporary resort (including mine) On the front page click review central, then go to deluxe resorts, contemporary. You booked with shades of green which then transferred you to the contemporary right? If you did that you will be paying dirt low prices to stay at the contemporary!

There is always a possiblilty that you could be upgraded at disney. Just ask when you are checking in for a curtesy uprgade to the tower, if they have a room available for the full 9 days you'll be there, I think they will give it to you.
Hope this helps and have a great time!
Joe :)

Yep, I do:

http://www.disneycentral.com/forum/s...&threadid=1681

50% discount on most WDW resorts through February 12, 2003. Most likely won't beat your Contemporary deal, but not a bad alternative if you want to look into staying somewhere else like the Animal Kingdom Lodge or the Boardwalk area.

Welcome to DisneyCentral, have a great trip!

The contemporary is usually alway booked solid for the tower rooms. Plus since you were booked by SOG, these rooms are the only ones that are open. I asked about an upgrade when we were there and were told that the SOG bookings cannot be upgraded unless you want to pay the difference. You might be able to get a upgrade for $11 dollars a night for one of the rooms overlooking Bay lake but that about all. I can't wait until the SOG is finished and we can stay there. The way I been told by WDW cast members it really going to a real plush place. We are waiting for the 15th to call for our reservation for next year there. You'll love the Contemporary if you want to spend alot of times at Epcot and MK. The walk to the entrance is about 7 mins and it great on Saturaday night because you can do the rides after the parade and take you time leaving the park. We didn't leave the park until 11:00 PM the Saturaday we were there even those the park closed at 10:00 PM that night. We took our time and were still riding the rides at 10:45.
