Where to stay on WDW???
Has anyone stayed here? I am trying to decide where to stay. Here are the top 3 contenders:
Animal Kingdom Lodge, All Star Resorts & Fort Wildreness. I have stayed in the All Star before, liked it, very convienent, nice, nothing extravagent, but economical. Animal Kingdom just looks sooooooooo nice. Then there is Fort Wilderness, sounds like a great deal since there will be 4 adults traveling, we would save $ on the dining out part of our trip. :weird: What should I do? Any of your suggestions are helpful! Thanks bunches! Heather P.S. We are military and the Contemporary is sold out for the time we will be there and the waitlist is closed. So, I am getting really good $ prices for the other resorts-----50% off until Feb 12 2003!!! WHOOO HOOO! OH I CAN'T WAIT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!! |

Since the Military discount will end soon, why not take a half week at the AKL and have them shift your bags to the Wilderness Lodge for the second half of the week? You won't have another opportunity like this for a loooooong time!
You can always stay at the All-Stars.

Out of your three choices, I would go for Animal Kingdom Lodge every time. It is a beautiful resort, great rooms and great views. I believe the Military rate is $153 per night, including tax for a savannah view. That is a great rate, I have never seen it below about $170.
There are some positives about staying at Fort Wilderness. If you party is larger than 4 people, there are two separate sleeping areas. There is also a full kitchen, and it is going to be a little less expensive, about $129 per night, including tax. I guess it comes down to whether your want to feel like you are roughing it while at WDW, or whether you want to go in luxury. While the wilderness cabins aren't exactly roughing it, Fort Wildernes tends to feel that way sometimes. MickeyMac's idea is a good one too, spliting up your time, though I believe there is very limited availability at the Wilderness Lodge. You could do the same thing between Fort Wilderness and AKL though. Disney will transfer your bags for you, just make sure they are packed first. You could also split up between a moderate and AKL. They are only $74 per night, including tax.

Heather~
I don' t know if this will help or not , but my husband and I restled with this decision too. Although your situation is a little different because we have our 2 girls coming with us..9 & 11 Anyhoo... I priced out staying at the ALL *'s and the Wilderness. Staying at the Wilderness was VERY tempting..nice queen bed for us and bunk beds for the girls...BUT.. the difference was over $300 just to have somewhere to sleep..although a nice place:dazed So we ( actually my DH had to finally make the decision) decided we would do the All *'s so we could spend that extra money on some other neat things we didn't plan on doing... I made dinner ressies at the Whispering Canyon so at least I can get over there and see what it looks like... Don't know if that helps any... guess if I was going with just my DH I might splurge a little on the room...not that my kids don't deserve it .. but when they saw the pictures of the Wilderness they said they rather stay at ALL *... lots of FUN things there... Our biggest ?'s were... how much time will we be staying in the room? How much did we want to spend for that.. Good luck.... |

Thanks so much for all your input, helps ALOT. I just don't know what to do----right now I am leaning towards splitting our time there, 1/2 All Stars & the other 1/2 AKL. Ohhh, I just don't know!
Thanks again, bunches! Heather :) |

BTW, I just got back from AKL and loved every bit of it. Although you need exploring time at AKL, if you stay at Fort Wilderness you will need a lot of extra free days to do a lot of their offerings. So stick to the Lodge I say.

I'm also active duty military and booked the Port Orleans (Riverside) for 66.00 + tax per night. We are going the last week of January and requested 2 rooms, connected. This rate was thru Mouseketrips.com Let them know you are active duty.

Welcome to the new members!
My suggestion is to stay at the most memorable place for you and your group. Do you love the outdoors? love to hike? fish? boat? love the Magic Kingdom? Stay at Ft Wilderness. Do you love animals? love to be pampered? love the Animal Kingdom? Stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Do you like big and loud? saving money? in-room pizza delivery? Stay at All-Star. Love Epcot? entertainment? dining? Stay at the Boardwalk. Happy planning!
