Swan and extras
Hi,
Just looked into rates at the Swan since Disney is fooling around with Annual Pass (AP) discounts for the fall. I could get rates at $ 149, and with tax it came to $ 166/nite. I asked about "extras" and was told that there is a $ 7/day parking charge ($14 to valet), extra charge to use the health club and an extra charge for internet. I know that Disney charges $ 9.95/day for internet, but I don't think they charge for their Health Club any more and there is no charge for parking. So as it stands now, without an AP discount at Disney, the Swan is still a great deal, but if Disney does come through with the discounts closer to our date in mid Oct, if they are around where they were last time, which is $ 209 total, the Swan and parking have you up to $ 173. Still cheaper, but just a note to watch the rates and extras. btw, check your bills. We were recently in Vegas and when I was doing the on screen checkout I noticed that there were 3 charges for "daily" internet for one day. I called to question and they made some comment about "logging off." I chuckled and told the girl that I don't stay on 24/7. She checked and found I was charged for each time I logged on that 24 hour period. They made the adjustment, but just a note to check bills for errors. Frank |

Frank -
I am interested in hearing your thought on the Swan once you have stayed there. I have never been and am curious about the resort. I didn't realize you were charged for parking. That seems kinda silly. It should be included with your nightly rate.

Re: Swan and extras
Seems like the current "thing to do" in the hotel industry. Almost everything is extra. I'm sure someday they'll charge for doing the towels every day too. It gets annoying. Why not just add it into the room rate so all the charges are upfront. But it reminds me of something I heard in a Peter Jennings interview this past week. He said that whenever he sees a coin, he always turns it over to see the other side. I guess the other side of the coin here is that if you don't drive there, or use the internet, or run outside you wouldn't want to be charged. A very debatable situation<g>.

Re: Swan and extras
They just added the parking fee this year for the Swan. They have the same perks as Disney resorts with transportation and EMH entry. Gulliver's Grill/Garden Grill restaurant was good too. We went to the character dinner, Big Blue and Tumon were there. Short walk to EPCOT/Resorts too.

Re: Swan and extras
we're going to be staying at the swan next month and i'm thrilled to death that we are. i was just wondering about that $7 charge for parking. we're not using a rental car for our trip, so is there any way that i can get this $7 charge off my bill? do i have to speak to someone at the front desk when i'm there or could i call them and tell them we're not using a car?

Re: Swan and extras
tragic, I'm not positive, but I assume that you won't be charged. I would think that if you had a car, you would need to get a parking pass for it to prove that you were paying for parking...so if you tell them you don't have a car, you won't need to pay the $7/night.
Does that make any sense? ![]()

I agree. They won't cut you a $ 7 break, but I doubt you'd be charged if you don't have a car. In the old days at Disney, to use the Health Clubs, you'd have to go to the club and buy a pass. I'd think the same would hold true with the car. Frank |

Re: Swan and extras
No, there is no charge if you don't use the parking. It's an extra charge if you do need it. I assume it's to stop the previous practice of people parking at the Swolphin to get into Epcot for free, or for people who come over to eat in the restaurants.
And what really happened is, there used to be a $10/day resort chrage tacked onto everyone's bill. That included your coffee, newspaper, health club access and internet connection. However, many people complained about paying for amenities that they didn't use, so they removed the standard charge and now you only pay that fee if you use the health club and/or the internet. We use the internet daily, so we still paid the fee.

I've never heard that before! It's a lot easier than saying "Swan and Dolphin" every time. LOL

Re: Swan and extras
I'm pretty sure you can. I know my TA asked me if I was getting a pkg or room only.
