Treehouse Villas

Are you able to stay at the treehouse villas? When were staying at the POFQ in July we took the boat to DTD which we passed the villas. Some of them had lights on like people were staying there. My DH wanted me to inquire about these, I thought that Disney had shut them down. Thanks for the info

No, they are closed down. I think some of them are used as offices.

Re: Treehouse Villas

Such a shame - this is the third time I've seen someone wishing they could stay there. It's too bad that Disney doesn't go ahead and renovate, and use this property!

Re: Treehouse Villas

My kids would think it was a blast to stay there. Wish Disney would do something with them.

Re: Treehouse Villas

Cut and Paste;
You can still see them if you take the water taxi from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney. I've been told that they are located in a protected wildlife area, and if torn down, no other structures can be built on that site. The latest rumor I've heard is that they will soon be refurbished as part of Saratoga Springs, but no official announcement has been forthcoming from the Walt Disney Company. The Treehouses sustained a lot of damage from falling trees during the recent hurricanes, so even if the rumor is true, it will probably be quite some time before they're inhabitable again.

You cannot reach Discovery Island by foot. It is only accessible by boat, but since it closed, it is off limits to guests. River Country can be approached on foot, but you can't get past the gate. It is also off limits to guests. You can see some of River Country as well as Discovery Island if you rent a boat in Bay Lake; however, you cannot dock at either place.

I agree that it's sad to see some of the older parts of the World disappearing, but Discovery Island became obsolete once Animal Kingdom opened, and both River Country and the Treehouses were in enough disrepair that extensive and expensive renovation would have been necessary to keep them open. In River Country's case, the structures themselves had become too dangerous for guests to use. Sorry for the sad news, but let's keep our fingers crossed that the Treehouses will make a comeback in the near future.

Re: Treehouse Villas

I really never knew about the Villas until a few months back - and I learned about them from here, of all places! Any idea what the pricing on the units used to be?

I'd love the opportunity to stay there. They've always intrigued me. But I've heard one of the reasons they're in limbo is because they're in such disrepair now. Too bad.

Yeah, they aren't exactly my cup of tea - at least I don't THINK they are - I've never seen them in person. I'd like to see them, though!

Re: Treehouse Villas

A friend at worked stayed at the treehouse villas, wow it must be six years now. She said that they were a little run down and out of the way. She said that the rooms were big and the kitchen was well stocked. She also said that it was impossible to sit out at night because of all the bugs that were around. I remember her telling me that she would not stay there again.

I also remember going to River Country, I loved that place it was very relaxing. Much more than the water parks that they have now.

Re: Treehouse Villas

We stayed there, as a free upgrade from the once Disney Institute. We loved them. There was a fake tree going through the middle, a down stairs room for the kids, with climbing ropes. There was a beautiful balcony and deck to watch the boats sail by. It was very quiet and relaxing, even more than the Wilderness Cabins.

All in all, we loved them. I will try to did out my pics.

Re: Treehouse Villas

The Treehouse Villas are in limbo as we've heard mostly because they aren't sure what they're going to do with them. I was told, however, that Regis stays in one whenever he comes down to tape ABC specials at Disney World, though. I think they're in the midst of trying to decide if they're going to include them as part of DVC or not at the moment.
