Pretty kewl if you could get the 100 or 300 loop. But yes pets are allowed and if they are dogs you do have to clean up after them

There are some other pet loops but I can't remember right now. But yes they are well booked in advanced.

Re: pets at Fort Wilderness campgrounds

December is a great month to camp in WDW! But book now! We always make our ressies in April/May.
There are alot of repeat campers year after year that go for the MVMCP. We always seem to see someone from the year before. Also, the campground is decked out in holiday decorations, including individual campsites. Everyone from tents to big RV's hang lights, add lighted lawn decorations, even those air filled Santas and such. Every year we seem to out do the last.

So... if you do go in Dec, plan on taking some christmas lights and decking the halls - oh um - campsite!!!

Re: pets at Fort Wilderness campgrounds

There are some campers that stay there for months. The are in the "Snow Bird" Program, which has a hugemoungus waiting list. They give them a really special rate like $30 a nite. I really like going there with those golf carts and see all the lights they put up.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE FW! My kids want to live there. I have had cold Decembers and "warm" Decembers- you'll have to watch the weather leading up to your departure so you pack appropriately.

Re: pets at Fort Wilderness campgrounds

Does FW allow pets?

Yes. Pets are allowed at campsites in loops 1600 through 1900, 300, 700 and 800, but must be kept in those areas. Depending on the season and demand, Fort Wilderness might also temporarily designate certain loops as pet loops. There is an additional charge of $5 per day. Owners are expected to clean up after their pets. Located at the entrance/exit of the pet loops, there is a receptacle to deposit pet waste, as well as collection bags with which to pick up the waste. Collection bags are also located between sites #1632 and #1634 beside the path to the comfort station. Pets may also be boarded at the kennel near the FW entrance. Note there are kennels elsewhere on Disney property if you can't get your pet in the Fort Wilderness kennel. The overnight fee (including dry food) for WDW resort guests is $9. Guests are encouraged to walk their pets at least twice per day as they are not otherwise let out of their cages. Proof that the animal has had all of its shots is also required. Hours for the kennel are 7:30 am to 8 pm. It is being rumored that the Fort Wilderness kennel may be closed in yet another downsizing move. However, to compensate, Fort Wilderness may be adding more pet loops (500 and 600 loops).

Re: pets at Fort Wilderness campgrounds

I think near the 400 loop if you walk in the back you will run across the old train tracks of the train that used to run through the park. we found them a couple of years ago. And oh the fireworks from disney are beautiful when you sit on the beach from the campsite.

Re: pets at Fort Wilderness campgrounds

Well this is a post I made at another disney forum. Which should help just a little bit.

you can sleep in anything you want including just sleeping bags, you just have to be at a preferred site (in the dog loop). You must accompany the dog at all times while you are there, or leave him in the kennel. Unless you have an RV, pop up's don't count because they generally are not air conditioned.
Kiani slept with us in the middle of july in the tent. But it was horrible cause it was a small kiddie pop up tent and there really wasn't room, and it was too hot for a northern dog (samoyed).
Word of advice, take along a window ac if you have one and pop it up on the picnic table or tailgate of a truck, toss a tarp over it and boom, comfiness abounds.

partial hook-up - water and electric (smallest, mostly for tents)
full hook-up - water, electric, and sewer (little bigger, mainly for pop-up trailers)
preferred site - water, electric, sewer, and cable (huge for an RV and your vehicle)
preferred dog loop - water, electric, sewer, and doggie clean-up bags. (same size)

No reservations can be made for the kennel. Although you can still drop your dog off at any time you check in. Our last trip we came in at 2am, and had the front desk call for some one to let me put her in. In the morning we came in and paid for the three days. Although they already had all her info in from the last trip (which made it speedy).
You must check in on your dog. They don't take them out for any reason (probably liability in case your dog gets aggressive) I trust Kiani to the fullest extent, but she's still very afraid of males and will hide behind me, but I have no idea what would happen if a male employee came to take her out for a walk if I wasn't there. We ended up locking our keys in the truck last trip, and so we were late checking out and getting up to let kiani out for a run. She ended up not being able to hold it in, although they were very understanding of the situation. They cleaned up her kennel in no time while we let her out for a run.
Ohh and it's only 9$ a day/night, 6$ a day for resort guest (11$ for non resort guest). And it does come with food, if you're dog is on purina one, which is nice for us, so we didn't have to drag along a 20lb bag of food with us. But don't change your dogs food just for a few days if they are on anything else. Ohh and constant fresh water. If your dog is good about coming to you when called, there's a nice field off to the side which is great exercise for them. Kiani loves chasing me around, and Kari is generally with me to help keep her attention in the field and she doesn't go into the parking lot. Just be carefull if there are any horses along the fence, there's a spot back behind the bushes/flowers that a dog can get underneath. I discovered that last trip when Kiani wanted to say hi to the horses. But she came back to me when I darted off in the other direction.
You also have to have all thier shots up to date and a paper from your vet. I'll be good for our next two trips, but I have to get her shots by the end of october.

And for an extra note, cats and other small animals can be housed at the kennels. Just any small animals have to be kept in thier own cage cause the bars are too big on any of the cat kennels to prevent escape artists from getting away. Ohh and according to our birnbaums guide from 1986, you can house any of your horticulture purchases for free at the kennels (so they don't die in the car). I guess that comes in handy during the flower and garden festival.

No matter how attached you are to your dog, or vise versa (Kiani's got a bad case of seperation anxiety) I think that they should stay in the kennel during the day. That way you don't have to come back to a destroyed camper. Unless your dog is used to travel and staying in the RV during the day. And if the camper doesn't have an AC, you'll be extra hot with a dog around. I know Kiani misses me and is over excited when I get to her every time, but I feel it's best for her.
