Tinkerbelle:
I am so glad you love the beach club I am signed up for July. Can't wait.

Until then I have no real favorites in the park -- but the Hyatt Grand Cypress is pretty nice (that's where I usually stay)

Well, my favorite resort would have to be Boardwalk Villas. They are nice and spacious, there are great restaurants within walking distance, you can walk to EPCOT and MGM, and you have great views of Illuminations (if you get the right room.) Plus, while you are staying at the Villas (or any other DVC property), you can swim in any pool, so we hop on over to the Yacht and Beach Club to swim, and you get the best of both worlds. I would vote for Animal Kingdom Lodge, but I haven't actually stayed there. When I do, it will be my favorite.

By the way, I beleive that the pizza window at Spoodles on the Boardwalk is open late.

Yes, spoodles window is open pretty late. This is one of my favorite restaurants and we usually stop here after the Jelly Rolls.

Tnkrbell, just curious, what was it about AKL that you didn't like? And how long has it been since the show was on the travel channel. We're planning on staying there in April and I'd like to catch another show if they do another one. I'm curious as to what others think about AKL.

I watched it about 5 weeks ago!! I can find out for you when they will be replaying it!! I know they will soon (March) playing Grand floridian and yacht and beach!!
As for what I didnt like It looked really dark. Also Not alot to do there (besides watch the animals which looks extremely cool) Also the pool was just ok. plus you have to take a bus to everywhere and I feel when I pay for a deluxe I want some more perks! Now again I have not stayed there!! And would like to visit it in person these are just my thoughts just from what I have heard nad on the tv show:D
I guess Im just love the Epcot resorts and that is what I compare it to!!

Yes, I have visited AKL. We ate at Jiko one night during our last trip, and then spent about an hour and a half walking around and gettin an unofficial tour. It was absolutely wonderful, but is definintely out of the way. The pool is nice, and you can see animals from the pool area, and there are nice places to sit and relax and overlook the savannahs. I wouldn't mind staying there if I had a car, but not if I had to use the Disney bus system full time. Make priority seating at Jiko or Boma and wander around for a while, you will be amazed.

No food court anywhere, although there is one in the Swan (or Dolphin, I can't remember). Chech out Beaches and Cream in the Beach Club, it is out by the pool, and has great hamburgers and shakes. Tough to get into late at night, but worth it. I would be surpised if there was a new food court in the DVC. When they built the Wilderness Lodge Villas, they didn't add anything like that, and Old Key West, which is giant, only has Olivias, and a couple of small counter service things.

My favorite resort that I have stayed at so far is the Contemporary. Man it was nice to be that close to MK.

I have also heard from my travel agent that the AKL has
great views, but is very out of the way. You need to plan
on extra travel time to and from the parks. Also in this months
Wine Spectatator magizine they did a artical on Jiko, they claim to have the largest South African wine list in the US. I will have to give Jiko a try next trip.
:)

When we go to AKL we will have our own transportation, but I was hoping to depend on Disney transportation quite a bit. The only problem with that is I don't want to spend all of my time riding in a bus:( I have so many mixed feelings about AKL. The pictures looked wonderful, but I haven't really heard that many people talking about it. This is our first trip in ten years and I want it to be good, no...I want it to be GREAT:) I can't imagine being dissapointed with anything Disney, but I guess I'm still worried. :dazed Thanks tnkrbell and Mickey for the information. I'm going to go see if I can find when the travel channel is playing that show on AKL again.

AKL

The Animal Kingdom Lodge will be shown on the Travel Channel on March 11 and 13th. Here is the schedule: http://travel.discovery.com/schedule...sode=783331025

Don't be worried about AKL, it is out of this world! You won't beleive your eyes when you walk into the lobby. All in all, it is my favorite resort in all of WDW. If it weren't for the fact that it is somewhat isolated, it would be perfect. I would ask about the bus schedule the day you arrive. I think that they have several buses that go directly to the parks without stopping elsewhere, so it shouldn't be too long of a commute. Then, plan your vacation around the bus schedule. If they have direct buses to EPCOT, MGM and AK, then that is great, but the days you go to MK, drive, or take the bus to EPCOT and monorail it. It shouldn't be too bad, it is a deluxe resort, and you will receive Disney service. Oh, and if you look at any of the other Disney boards, it is a smashing hit, and I never have seen a bad word said about it.
