off-site rooms
We have friends joining us during our WDW vacation for a couple of days.
They always stay off grounds...more economical. I am unfamaliar with the off-site properties.... anyone have any tips on nice, close, economical rooms. Any discount codes etc? any info welcomed! FYI: dates: Fri Oct 14 thru Sun Oct 16 I see the all-stars are $99/night those days...so anything that costs less is what I am looking for. |

Re: off-site rooms
If they're interested in renting a home nearby, I can help there, but not with off-site hotel rooms.

Re: off-site rooms
There are several places close by that you can save $30-$40 per night compared to the AS resorts, but they won't have the same magic. It also depends on how much "quality" you like in a hotel. My suggestion is to do what I did in July when I took a spontaneous trip down to watch the shuttle launch. Use priceline.com. You have to be VERY FLEXIBLE on where you stay, but they give you the option of "near Disney". I selected the highest rated hotels only and entered a price of $60 per night and actually got a villa with an upstairs and downstairs including 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, kitchen and living room. The location was right next to the new Super Target in Kissimmee but only about 5-7 minutes from DTD. I only use this when I'm looking more for price than for a specific hotel. However, once you put in your bid, if it's accepted by someone, it's a done deal and you've paid for it right then.

Re: off-site rooms
Checkthe back of FamilyFun magazine. They advertise some good rates for "Maingate" hotels. Holiday Inn Maingate East was very nice when we stayed there in 2001, and it was only a five minute drive to WDW.

Oh man,
I'm all about saving money, but if you can swing it at all, stay on site at a value. I've only ever stayed off site once and I won't ever ever ever do it again.

Re: off-site rooms
Like Cavey said, the Maingate areas are pretty good. Stop by a McDonald's or a convenience store and pick up some of their free travel books. They'll list a whole bunch of offsite places and some will have coupons.
We once stayed at a Holiday Inn on International. Not sure of the exact address, but it was across from a McDonald's and a First Union (this was years ago). And it was fine. And not too far from WDW. And it had a Tiki Bar!! I was underage though. But do be careful and check the neighborhoods. Last year, we stayed at one that was next to the Double Tree Towers and a Denny's by Universal. We figured since it looked like a decent area and was directly across from the park, it would be fine... NEVER AGAIN. The maid snatched a WHOLE bottle of my Chanel #5 (which was INSIDE one of my bags) and my brothers brand new pair of Phat Farm's were taken as well. I do love staying onsite. But sometimes I'd rather pay $50 instead of $99.

Re: off-site rooms
I suggest the Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista- 8442 Palm Parkway, Lake Buena Vista 1-407-996-7300
They usually have very good rates. It is rated 2 stars but is very nice. It is right near the Hotel Blvd entrance to WDW (DTD) and right near many excellent areas in downtown Lake Buena Vista. This hotel has a great Disney aura because so many people there are going to WDW. They also have a great and affordable breakfast brunch. I always use Orbitz.com to book hotels because you get to choose the hotel and are not stuck with what is given you. Good Luck

Re: off-site rooms
I've also used Priceline.com to get a room for $24/night only 15 minutes from WDW.

Re: off-site rooms
We take quite a few impromptu trips to Disney.... Now this hotel is not fancy, but it is clean and I have never had anything taken from my room... it is Motel 6 it is on 192 directly behind McDonalds..... It has two full size beds and a bath... It ususlly runs us $35.00 including tax... no special rate or code needed..... the rooms are small... but if you are only sleeping in them.... it is ok... I hope this helps...

Re: off-site rooms
We stayed at a Clarion for 69.00 a night on Irlo Bronson during peak season (spring break) so, I know it's possible. Just look up Disney Area hotels. Most of the "partner" hotels even provide bus transportation...if you're interested.

Re: off-site rooms
Another great site to try Is www.tripadvisor.com. It has objective and unbiased reviews of hotels from all over the world. I've used it many times and have never been disappointed.
