Book ahead or wait for discount?

We are planning a trip for mid Feb. - the question is do we book a room only reservation now to hold our spot or do we hold out for a while and hope they announce some winter discounts? If we have an existing reservation and then they announce a discount you can apply the new rate right?

I am hoping for either room discounts or another free dining plan. As long as you check in during value season you would get that rate for your entire stay - correct??

Opinions please. Thanks everyone!

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

usually if you book a room, and there is a discount code you just call disney and they will apply the new rate if the time you are going , and the room is available. there is no guarantee, but then if you wait, there is still no gaurantee that you will get a discount. so it all depends, if that is when you want to go, book it.

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

I would book it now, or sometime soon. Book a room only reservation. You can cancel if a package deal comes out. It is always nice to know you have something booked, just in case.

The rate for your entire trip is based on the day you check in. So if you check in during value season, even if it is the last night, you get the same rate for entire stay.

Would that apply to a free dining offer too? For example, they offer free dining through the end of value season - if you check in on the last day of value season would you qualify for free dining for your entire stay?

Thanks for the input - I think we'll be making a room only reservation.

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

I would book now. We have a room only reservation for 10/24-10/29 and the new discount code just came out. I called and gave them the code and they changed my rate. Saved $365!!!!!

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

DEFINITELY book now. And as for your question on the dining plan...I think if you check in on the last date of the dining plan offer, you get it for your entire stay. Most of the time you will see the deal advertised as "THE FREE DISNEY DINING PLAN IS VALID FOR CHECK-IN DATES FROM 9/24-10/5..." I am just using fake dates, but you get the picture.

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

I agree with the others, book your reservation now and if the discounts appear you can always rebook for the better price.

Yes, for room only and for packages, the price of the room is based on the date you check in. The price difference between value season and peak season is quite a bit, even at a Value resort. Savings at the Moderate and Deluxe resorts are quite a bit more.

Think of it as an initial discount, since most of your nights will be far less than anyone else has right now.

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

Ok, I'm ready to make a room only reservation -- thanks everyone!

Now my question is WHEN...do we book for the end of value season going into peak season -- I don't know how that will affect crowd levels, but the kids would only miss 2 days of school.

Or do we take the kids out of school for a whole week and go during January when hopefully the crowds would be lighter???

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

What are the grades of the children? How are they doing in school? Talk to your teachers, and see how it goes.

I personally don't see anything wrong with it, but it depends on your children's ability to catch up/stay with the class.

:c)

Re: Book ahead or wait for discount?

Well, in February, Peak season starts with President's Day weekend, which is pretty crowded. If you can go in January, the crowds will be minimal.
